Hawthorne Saturday - A Melee at 6f

Here is the 8th at Hawthorne this Saturday. It goes 6f on the dirt for nw3l and a 5k claiming tag.

Full field and an interesting mix of runners is the reason I posted this one up for you matchers!

I look forward to your thought processes (as do many others! ) and I really want to thank those who take the time to participate.

Best of luck/skill and good matching!

Races looks OTE with weak pace setters so I am going with the 3 on top and a couple of long shots for second, the 12 and 9

Tandems and track surfaces

The track at HAW was very muddy today so I expect it will not be fast tomorrow.

Tandems:

2/18 1,2,3,6,7
2/19 8,9,13,14
12/23 (7th race) 1,3,12
12/23 (2nd race) 2,7,10
12/17 5,6
12/10 3,14

That's as far as I went. Not everyone uses tandems. I do. Looks like these guys are on a first name basis.

I'll come with my picks tomorrow.

HAW Race #8

Having posted several of the tandems, I am generally unimpressed with most of them. I think the only tandems of note are the 5 and 6 on 12/17 when they went 22 45.5 and the 12/10 tandem which went 22.3 45.8.

Race Analysis:

Earlies: 1,5,8,14. Only the 5 is a contender.
P Type: 11. 5th position vs. 22.2 5 back. Good effort on off track. My have been the pick last time at 7/1. Contender
S Type: 3. 4th position power move 4 back.

With 4 earlies, this race figures to be won sustained. My two contenders are the 3 and the 11. I think the 11 may get caught up in the pace.

My choice is the 3.

Enjoy all the great racing today.

Scratch #5 and #14…

I looked at 1, 8 and 11 as the earlies. It was a tricky projecting the pace for this one. I looked at lines on all three of these guys and came up with 23.3 47.2 (in tenths).

I was prepared to go ote with the 2 and 3, but the scratches really soften the early scenario. I now see this race being won closer to the pace and I will go with the 11 and 8.
