the untouched potential horse

I play a lot of maidens and occasionally there is an angle that I have used for secondary bets (OTHER than 2nd call maidens).

Young horses run versus the pace they are up against and OFTEN you see a wire to wire maiden winner or md placed horse come back and it does NOT match up with today's field in the pace it ran against, or, in the segmental velocities it produced.

BUT, this horse ran well on the lead versus the pace it had to overcome in THAT match up : not a pace close to today. It did what it had to do versus a lesser pace but we don't know if a FASTER pace would have brought out more grit than we saw. Any horse that wired a field may have MORE gas in the tank that was ever required AND the experience of that one race might have taught the horse how to run (the better ones improve with experience).

Always give this type a second look. They are about 50:50 to improve but often the odds are generous.
