Need to Lead

Using RDSS how would I determine a "need to lead" horse? Any tutoring would be appreciated.

Any horse that is pressed (you can tell by the race description) and subsequently goes faster earlier (gains % median) qualifies,

Be careful to consider that many a horse that meets a faster pace than they are capable of matching simply can't keep up and does Not always make it a need to lead.

Hi Dave

Here are two horses I have highlighed what I use to
look for nead to lead E running style horse

First from Philly Park here is Little Mex

I look at the color coding and from nead to lead I look for # 1 or 2hd or 2nk
Everything In RDSS is color coded Red = 1 Green = 2 and Yellow = 3rd
Also Ted has color coded the Race Break = BR

So any way Little Mexican Is for sure a nead to lead horse
It alway breaks fast almost always has the lead at the first to calls
But thing is Little Mexican can only win races if it gets the lead
I have highlited the 4th and 6th lines

Another nice screen to look at foor need to lead horses is the velocity
screen If little Mexican can only win if it gets the lead and goes wire to wire
How fast of a third fraction will it need to run ? Is thier another horse in the race who will be close enough and runs a faster third fraction If so
Little mex is in trouble

Next from Monmouth is # 3 Landi
This one also is an early horse It can go wire to wire or fight
and win from just off the lead
Again I have highlighted the break and first two calls position Red Green Yellow 1 and close 2's
