INTRO--Being Focused

Just wanted to give a quick intro. My name is Eric and I am from Tulsa, Ok.

This is a great forum and a great place for those that want to learn the match up. Rich and others are continuing Jim teachings, in this forum, which is a good thing. There is not another Jim Bradshaw, but Rich is doing a great job in teaching others. Hopefully I will be able to bring something to the table for you in the future.

I got involved in the SM way back in the early eighties. I met and learned that match up from Jim. I remember going to Jim's house several times when I was handicapping badly and he would say "Eric sit here and tell me who ran the fastest race last race" I would tell him, then he would say "who can beat it?" If I thought another horse could beat it that would be the horse. He would just put me back on course. It really can be that simple.

I would stray away from the match up from time to time looking for an easier way to play. I like to play every race and now with five tracks running it takes a toll on me to match up, sometimes I only have a few minutes to make my play. Anyway straying away has never been good for me. My mind has always been on matching up and if I use a computer program I battle with it and lose. So for sometime I have been using HTR great program but I battle with what it tells me.

I can remember going to our local simulcast center for the first time a years back. I became friends with some and they would say who do you like. They would say the horse is 15-1 and the trainer is 0 for 30. I would say "yep and he will be 1 for 31 when this race is done, I did not look at trainers, class etc…. I could not even tell you who was riding the horse. But then as time went by and you keep hearing this stuff and you lose a few you start to second guess your method. I would stray again, but later always to return to matching up.

It was just a few weeks ago I had strayed again and was handicapping badly, I was out searching on the internet for something when I ran across something that led me here. I thought what the hell Jims trying to tell me something again. So back to the match up.

The last four days all I have taken to the track with me was the forum. I must say it has been extremely profitable for me. Yes at the end of the day I go home and crash from total exhaustion.

Focus---Jim teaches--- Have you ever had a bad day and the last race seems to get you ahead for the day—why? because you focus to a greater extent. Yesterday was not going great, lost a few races in a row and was down for the day. The last race at HAW was my last chance for the day to make a bad day a good day. The 1,3,4,8,9 all came out of the same race—I knew one of the tandem horses would win. The race figured to be won by the 3 on paper, but I knew something would reverse it. I was totally focused but I could not find the horse to flip it then out of the corner of my eye I saw—stumbled bore out turn—on the 4 horse and there it was, that my horse I could see this race run before it had run the 4 would behind the 1 and pass the 1 leaving the turn and win. I looked up and saw 14-1 on the horse. I ran to the window.

Anyway this is a great forum. Jim is the "MAN" learn from Jim-it is truly a gift to have him here. He is an amazing man.

I love this. It shows that Jim has been on top of things from the beginning.

I couldn't agree more, and welcome to the board.
