Congratulations on knowing
when to pass the races.
A great handicapping skill of its own,

That is so true Don. No one ever lost money passing a race.

Tim,

You say you aren’t posting anymore because of few views. You might want to try narrowing your focus. In some races you list almost every horse when you include longshots and then claim a result when an exotic hits. Of course you’re going to hit!

Wouldn’t it be of more interest to post only 2 selections per race? Thats pure Sartin. And then maybe have 3 horses listed for underneath in verticals. Something a little less vague. Maybe would help demo your final thoughts and bets to the juniors looking in.

As it stands you are eliminating from consideration only a few horses from an entire card at small tracks like TDN.

Also you wouldn’t have to keep track of and list so many results. Just sayin.

Hi Mike. Thanks for your input. I have noticed that after the races are over the post are getting more views which is nice. When I do the recap you will note that everything is based on the top 4 picks only which by the way is usually the amount of picks listed by the track racing experts during their pre race shows. Also when we open RDSS the entry screen almost always has most of the field checked as win contenders. When I post winning bets in the races of interest section I always post my picks 1st so the folks can see where I ranked the winning combos prior to the race being run. So I don't think there is a need to change the way I post. Oh by the way many tracks, including the major ones, are having trouble with field sizes and pretty soon several more major track will be opening which will cause more problems. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Tim as you have always stressed P & C is a learning forum and if handicappers, new or older, want to improve their skills I believe there is no better way than reading the breakdowns in the Races of Interest thread that you and Dick Werpy provide to all, free of charge, I know would not be anywhere near as proficient if I had not learned and followed your teachings. So as far as this student of handicapping is concerned JUST KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING and we will all be better players for it.

“Due to the lack of interest[1 view all day] this will be the last time I will be posting selections.”

That was Tims post, not mine. I made some suggestions that I think might help. But the response from Yoda and Luke is to keep doing the exact same thing. You will then get the same level of tepid interest. Don’t matter to me. I’m not the one doing all the recording, compiling and posting.

As you were,

Pook, you are getting at something important here.

Listing 4, 5, or 6 horses in a race and then showing a winning result afterward doesn’t really demonstrate a wagering decision. It shows contenders, but not what was actually played.

The part that would really help people learn is simple:

What was the actual wager before the race?
Which horse or combination was the play?
How was the ticket structured?

That’s where handicapping becomes real.

Posting selections after the race and pointing to the winner doesn’t show that part of the process. Posting even just one top play or actual ticket before post time, win or lose, would make it much clearer how the method performs.

That’s the difference between reviewing a race and actually handicapping one.
