Wow!
I made the biggest bet of my life (500 bucks) about 30 years ago in a stakes at Belmont. The winner was a horse named State Dinner, but it was reported as being the longest time ever in NYRA history that it took to separate the photo. It was almost 30 minutes.

I was pretty sure that I'd win, but the anxiety it caused insured that I'd never again make such a large wager.

The talking heads just approved of my seventh race pick. Kiss of death as far as I'm concerned, but I do it anyway.

As the title of a Yes album declared "going for the one."

I've only made two $500 win bets. The first was on Easy Goer or Best Pal (I forget which). My friend in Vegas' liked the same horse and had me bet $500 for him too at Connecticut OTB. Back then they had separate pools and he figured Connecticut would have a better price. It did, but the horse ran second.

My other bet was at Saratoga with Pat Day onboard. He won but there was on objection. I sweated it out for 25 minutes...and they took him down!
