The ENTIRE reason they run is fight/flight,. They run out of FEAR
Flight is used, but They run because they want to

No 8 stone midget is going to make a 1 ton animal run if it does not want to

Hmmmmm all that research, all those trainers telling me that it is simple FLIGHT

They must all be wrong

It is a conditioned response to fear PURE AND SIMPLE. no different that Pavlov's dog salivating to the conditioned response of a sound and food

Rent the good documentary Wild Horse Redemption where convicts train ( and desensitize this instinct to some extent)"breaking them" to saddle. CONDITIONING

OK

Go ask them trainers if they've ever had an horse that refused to race

Seen em refuse to go in stalls, refuse to come out of stallls, refuse to jump hurdles and fences

No one can make a 1 ton animal do what it does not want to

In the wild, a horse's fight or flight reflex almost always triggered his flight from something threatening his existence. He rarely chose to stand and fight if there were other paths to safety.

CONDITIONAL REFLEXES the very basis for ALL trained animal behavior. No different than my cat walking into the kitchen whenever the can opener runs.

If a horse was a dumb as your trying to make it out to be, it would stand still and be someone's breakfast

Wild horses flee, TB's are not wild

"When a thoroughbred is in fight/flight mode they can often kill themselves, as well.
Not intentionally, but they do tend to lose all sense of self preservation when they feel the need to escape badly enough."

Instinctual behavior, HARD WIRED, will trump the higher centers of "learned logic" that animals with higher developed brains can come to trust

Read Konrad Lorenz ON AGGRESSION, or Desmond Morris HORSEWATCHING.

I do not need to read anything, i've been watching horse racing for over 20 years

TB's are Trained to go in gate, break out of the gate and trained to race

Wild instinct ain't nowhere in that

that LINE screams to your ignorance of the facts

http://www.whmentors.org/saf/hsafe01.html

"Horses are born survivors. They are amazingly successful in virtually any habitable wild environment.
Their success is greatly due to their physical design and a number of instinctive behaviors that serve them well in hostile territory. These behaviors exist in every horse and can unexpectedly be brought out by an unwitting human.

A horse is designed to flee from danger however he is well equipped to fight if he feels threatened and believes that has no clear exit.

Horses' brains are similar to other mammals. The left hemisphere controls reasoning and cognitive activities. The right hemisphere controls instinctive and survival oriented reactivity. Horses are prey animals.
They eat grass and other animals eat them. As a matter of survival in the wild their right brain hemispheres must be able to trigger an immediate protective response once a certain stress level is reached.

If the horse can't see a flight path
or if he is defending something (e.g., a mare defending a foal or a stallion defending his band from another suitor) the horse can inflict great injury with his hooves and teeth." Seems to me when a horse dumps its rider it never seems to stop and grind it's teeth to the assistant starters, BUT sees a way out and takes it INSTINCTIVELY

Which response : 1) stand and defend or 2)flee do just about all horses choose when they have the option?

You keep coming up with this that and other, but fail to see TB horses are TRAINED and CONDITIONED to do this, that and other

Just like i trained and conditioned my gundogs to hunt phesants, rabbits etc

They didn't have that ability until I trained and conditioned them to do it
