I never came across this since I haven't used these distances in this program. Some tracks such as Hawthorne run 1 mile and 70 yards all the time. So this is a problem for these distances. If I find anything out I will let you know.-----Houndog.

Thanks. I emailed Dick Schmidt with the question - I'll let you know if I get a response.

I had a programmer write a program for me that prints out all the TPR numbers for all the pps for all the horses with a click of a button, based upon Pace makes the race with 1 exception , I have a Par section to make my adjustments, I do use the Variant like in the book. I so far have avoided Poly tracks so no zero problem for me.

I avoid races where no horse has had atleast 5 races been with in 1 beaten lenght at the first call. These races kill me, so no bet.I also avoid races with unknowns like first time starters ( no maidens) more than 1 layoff, Horses with last out pace lines running distances that TPR is not very reliable with.I have a whole list in my head of things like how much to discount a 7.5 turf final fraction as compared to a mile. etc. etc.

I look for advantages of 2 or more points either Early or Late depending upon the race shape.I like to set up a field position wise at the first call to see who will be in the front , who will be 2nd, 3rd....7th....10th etc.
With this info using TPR I can eliminate horses who Dont fit a race shape.

Mike,Thanks for sharing.I had sent you a PM asking you about any pointers you could give me using TPR numbers.I have been really fascinated with them ever since Houndog updated the par file for Synergism 4 last year.He really did one heck of a job doing them.Jeff

Jeff:

The Person That Won Was Actually Sitting At The Table Next To Me And At The Same Table As The Thorovision Man, As Far As I Know. I Am Not Sure What Program(s) They Were Using But That Was Some Pretty Fancy Handicapping.

1. First I created a list of Race type situations that they failed, like multiple layoffs, maidens, non winners of 2( forfeit races) , races with shippers which fail to reproduce their numbers even with their par adjustments, pace less races, races with odd distances like 4.5 f and more than 9f. etc. after this I am left with my playable races.

2. I always like to position the horses at first call who will be 1rst thru last.

3. I then assign running styles next to their position.

4. Using TPR I then like to position the horses based upon their EPR, using their most representative paceline, 90% of the time this will be among the last 4 races. With this I can see how their velocity matches up with their 1rst call position which I predict.

5. I then beggining with the positional leaders look at their FFR ratings and look for any weaknesses, I am looking for big drop offs in FFR.. If I see this and I see that this horse has only a 1 or 2 point advantage early over one of the next positional horses it begins to open up the race to horses farther back. I then look at horses in 2nd 3rd and 4th position, comparing their position at 2nd call and what FFR ratings they post, these horses I like to be within 3 or 4 EPR points, with 6 or 7 point FFR advantage, if their are none of these then I look at the mid to back position horses, these I only play if all the horses in front of them are weak late and they have huge FFR advantages. All this will come easier as you see the RACE SHAPE of the race.

# 4. Should be How the field positions itself velocity wise at the 2nd call.
A lot of times given the race shape you can eliminate the back 1/3rd of the field.

***Watch some races see how many times the horses who are last or near last at the first call even with a big late move only come in 3rd or 4th. It will amaze you why people bet their money on these sluggs.

6. Even with Good Pars, you always need to keep a list of adjustments to make to your pars , for some distance or track changes I have found that making exceptions to my pars has made improvements. Ex Charleston a horse with a sprint pace line going a route my pars may say subtract 6 points early, but in reality 10 points brings up more winners. So when I see this I always will make this adjustment and write it down on my print outs.

The same goes for shippers, when a track ends its season, the better or faster horses will go to one circiut and slower horses will go to another track, this is one of the limitations of pars so it needs to always be look at and you have to make adjustments.
