Jeff,

Are you aware that if you left click on a poster's name and go to their "Public Profile", you have two options at the top of the page. One places that person on your "Buddy" list. I'm not sure what that one does. The other palces the person on your "Ignore" list. That one makes the person disappear (to you) and you no longer see their posts. You can edit the list at any time from your control panel.

I've used the feature many times at PA and it can do wonders for your blood pressure. I haven't felt the need to use it here yet but its nice to know its there.

Dick

NO I wasn't.

I deleted the post that I felt was personally offensive.

Any personal or derogatory attacks on an individual will be deleted immediately. Debate is fine. The other stuff is NOT.

This board is NOT the place for that.

Ciao

Cool top 3 things

What are the top 3 things you are looking for when picking a paceline??

Jeff , i think everyone should be reminded of the original question which
started this thread.

I don't have 3 things, only 1.

I try to pick the paceline that I think most closely represents how I think the horse will run today.

How do I determine that? Through years of observation and experience. I look for things like trainer changes, jockey changes, layoffs, form cycles, class changes, equipment changes, makeup of current race as it pertains to early pace, post postition, track bias, etc. The class of horse and track can make a big difference. Picking pacelines for Saratoga is very different from picking pacelines for Mountaineer. Recency certainly matters and if I think 2 lines are representative of the effort I expect the horse to give today I will normally pick the most recent of the two lines.

I know this may not be classic Sartin, but it is how I do it.

Paceline Selection

More of an artform than an exact science.

1) I try to stay away from a paceline that is atypical of a horses usual performance.

2) I try to stay away from projecting or extracting a paceline if at all possible, especially if projecting since more often than not they project too fast in programs such as Thoromation.

3) I try to avoid wire to wire unchallenged winning pacelines, especially older horses since they come out as monsters on the readouts, but often lose.

4) Sorry Jeff, this is more than 3, but I tend not to go too far back for a paceline with cheaper claiming horses. On the other hand I will go back for a paceline with classier horses.

5) I ask myself why did the horse run good or ran badly in it's last race. Was it the first race off of a layoff? Wrong distance, traffic problems, etc. I need to have a good reason to discount a horse's last race before I want to go back for another paceline. If none of these reasons are present I tend to be less forgiving of a bad last race performance. You may miss a couple of winners, but you will also be eliminating many horses that are in the downward spiral of their form cycle.
