It mentions 2 issues -

1. Background synching to the Microsoft OneDrive Cloud (could affect general program performance over slower internet). Try turning this OFF.

2. MORE IMPORTANT, IMO - Turn Down or Disable Visual Effects (scroll half-way down the article looking for that headline). Since people who have experienced this - and on certain computers and not others - mention 'visual sluggishness', this caught my attention.

Since I do not experience this on ANY of my 3 computers (various MS Surface Pro tablets) - I cannot test this effectively. If anyone who DOES experience this slow-down can test this suggested modification to Windows 11 visual settings and let us know if it helps - that would be useful, thanks!

These suggestions might be an interim solution for those who need it (or maybe not.)

2 RDSS updates are coming immanently -

1. RDSS connects again to the NEW TrackMaster Store. You resume using your OWN TrackMaster account (and they resume charging you for RDSS data). This is in final testing. Next few weeks.

2. Migration of entire RDSS to the latest version of my development tool - PowerBuilder, which formally supports Windows 11. It has been suggested that this migration may address Win 11 visual slowness issues. Following delivery and any bug responses to #1 above, but likely by the end of November.

Looking forward to hearing feedback from the suggestions above!

Ted
Looking at todays BC racing at Del Mar with very full fields. I tried the two suggestions above.
Number 1: I don’t have One Drive installed. I removed it because I would have no use for it.
Number 2: I switched appearance to the performance priority.

No difference.

When looking at a race first time I am getting between 5 and 10 seconds for a screen change. This can’t be normal. Also when the new screen is in the process of coming up all the info in the Race Cards by Date goes blank.

This seems to me to be a processing issue. You can still do everything but you need a lot of patience. This is using a new HP computer with an adequate processor, plenty of RAM and Windows 11 with all its updates.

Further to the above when working the BC. More than once when in the Leverage Pace screen and I clicked a horse to see its PP’s it stalled, would not go there, had to restart RDSS.

When looking at PP’s and clicking through the horses using the right arrow it would take up to 30 seconds to get to the next horse. Not always but often.

Part I don’t get is I’m using the latest and the greatest. A machine dedicated only to using RDSS. But not everyone including Ted is experiencing this in Windows 11.

Initially when I upgraded to Windows 11 in Parallels on my Mac I attributed the slow performance to Parallels not running Windows 11 well because there was some reporting of issues. So I figured the native environment for RDSS would make sense. Not so.

Should have stayed where I was in Windows 10 in Parallels on my Mac. FWIW Microsoft with Windows 11 is trying to be more Mac like. It is, but in a more complicated and cumbersome way.

Can’t go back to Windows 10. Hopefully this next coming update that Ted has promised will straighten things out.

Mike

Mike, and everyone else - I am very sorry RDSS is stalling when switching between tabs or refreshing displays. It is maddening when it is intermittent, which means that some graphics hardware or software drivers on some computers - even new ones with lots of resources - demonstrate this issue while others do not.

So far, I would say it only appears on Windows 11, various updates, and not on Windows 10. I have 1 MS Surface running Windows 11 with NO issues, and older MS Surface running Windows 10 still - also no issues, and a newer Lenovo Thinkpad on Win 11 also with no issues. Others have confirmed that many older versions of RDSS also demonstrate the same unfortunate visual behaviour. It is nothing to do with recent updates, rather - (hopefully) with the underlying tools and libraries in the development environment (PowerBuilder and support tools) which RDSS is built with.

I have given all the resources I can find so far in this thread for people to try - from reading every day and from serious AI research.

I have a plan to address this over the coming month, depends on how much work is required to launch and fix immediate Bugs in the latest RDSS update addressing the new TrackMaster Store and continued access to data.

I have a few intermediate tests planned during that update work for which I'll need a small crew of testers who DO experience the problem. Since I do not have computers which demonstrate the problem! If anyone wants to be part of that test group, please write me privately.

Again - sorry for this unexpected issue. I would not blame anyone for setting RDSS aside until this issue is resolved!

Ted

Hi Ted. I finally gained access to the new version today after failing last night when the new store would not recognize my id & password. I am using Windows 11 and for what it is worth the program worked well for me today. I'll keep you updated if anything changes.

Since the update, RDSS has stalled completely, meaning that any area I hit with the mouse ends up with a form of a beep. The only thing that clears this is to shut down the computer and restart. I cant get out of RDSS or move to any other horse or screen.

This happened during the BC weekend and again attempting to work PRX races earlier this week.

Bill - I'm going to move this to the existing Bug discussion on RDSS' apparent slow down - leaving this one for Q+A on logistics of working with the new downloading system.

FWIW - the behaviour you report is new - previously unreported by anyone. "RDSS freezes entirely - can't move among screens/tabs or even switch to other programs."

Are you quite sure that this is not affected by other programs you have running at the same time?

Does it have to do with navigating an assembled race? Or also on the Data Centre, or Registration or Config Screens? Or the Tote & Track Info Screen on the Sidebar (bottom)? Are you sure there are no restrictions being placed by your Windows Security on RDSS' internet access?

Has anyone else out there observed this behaviour? I.e. not only the reported slowness moving between tabs and the popping and disappearing of the Sidebar - but actually freezing the entire program - every time - and the entire computer (i.e. can't switch to any other program)?

Thanks.

Bill we can look at this by Zoom if you like. Let me have a few more details above, thanks!

Ted

Just to confirm, the slowness issue is in Windows 11 definitely. Out of frustration I went back to my Intel based Macbook and reinstalled Parallels with Wndows 10. I still have until the end of the year on that subscription so I figured I might as well use it.

No issues at all. Smooth as silk. Hopefully things can get ironed out with Windows 11 by the end of the year so I can use my new PC.

I would have left things as is, except Microsoft is discontinuing support for Windows 10 this fall. So I thought I would upgrade. But a new PC with Windows 11 was a disaster for RDSS. I mean how can you handicap when something as simple as unchecking the contender box in the Entries screen takes 10 seconds?

Looking forward to the new version.

Not sure this applies here.
Sometimes computer will slow
down because of to many programs
running in background.
If your using mccaffe..for virus
protection. Look no further.

Thanks Don! You are certainly right about that. Although - on some hardware running Win11, even if you pare the running programs down to minimum, and even TURN OFF anti-virus apps (temporarily) - the screen flickers and stalls while moving between RDSS tabs in a super-annoying way. This is what I am working on.
