Exotic Betting - Pace and Cap

Just read the advance book excerpt on Exotic Betting by Steven Crist in Saturday's racing form. He makes an interesting observation in that he states a superior horse may overcome pace issues to win; but the remaining order of finish may be more directly affected by pace. Horses you might include or exclude when considering who will win are not automatically the right inclusions or throwouts for "underneath" purposes.

This is what Doc Sartin has been saying for years in the Follow-Ups (counter-energy horses;etc) This comes as a pretty good concession from Crist on pace because as he states he uses speed figures to measure a horse's ability under optimal circumstances. Some of this may be similar to Dick Mitchell's books on exotic betting. While Dick Mitchell extolled the virtues of the pick three Crist is a big proponent of the pick 4. Most times I am not interested in any DRF book offerings but this one seems to be worthwhile.
