Horse bleeding after race

Pace and Cap I have a question:
How can you find out if the horse bleed after a race?
Thanks, Mike

Maybe the chart caller could put it in his footnotes for the race?

Not sure if there is vet list of horses examined after races that were shown as being bleeding but that would be interesting to look into!

Curious to know what your asking this? No hard feelings

Hello Mike,

To the best of my knowledge this information belongs only to the connections, also if they bleed between races or from workouts. The biggest reason for this is that if a horses bleeds during a race it can't race for 30 days and they can't make money in the barn. A second time during a race and they aren't allowed to race again. Many years back this stuff got reported but no longer.

Horses going on Lasix for the first time must have had to bleed and also to have been examined by a Vet however for years Vet's just confirmed any horse the trainers wanted.

After big races the writers follow the winners and will report how they came out of the race or if a big favorite lost they'll ask the trainer why. Their biggest excuse to owners and the public is the horse didn't like the track. But the everyday horses go un-reported.

Conley, Mitch, thanks for your comments.
The main reason I ask this question is that, if the horse did bleed, a poor performance could be excused.
Regards, Mike
