My favorite horse was Skip Away We loved Skip Away down at Monmouth Park
We all rooted for Sonny Hines star. He turned out to be a great one

I ran into Sonny Hines several years ago in the horsemen's room at Saratoga Race Course. I complimented him on what a wonderful job he did with Skip Away and the conversation turned towards how having a big horse like that puts you constantly in the public eye. He had gone over to Vermont the night before for dinner and some time away from the track. He said that twice during the meal people approached him to talk about Skip Away. I got the impression he was uncomfortable in the spotlight but that he truly loved Skip Away and was somewhat surprised by the impact that Skip Away had on the public.
