A newbie's first day

I played 4 races at Saratoga today, betting two horses per race.

I bungled the first and sixth races but the ninth race got almost all spent to that part of the day back into my pocket when Lady Joanne won the feature at an $11.00 mutuel.

Then the tenth race gave me a $7.90 winner and the second half of a daily double - something I don't normally play as it's hard to find two playable races in a row. The double paid $51.50.

All totalled, I spent $48.00 and saw a return of $98.75.

The program is relatively easy to use, I was using perceptor scores to select pace lines in most cases, but sometimes used my own judgment relative to distance, recency, track surface or tandems.

I realize that there is much to learn yet, but I have no issues with how the program is laid out graphically and certainly not with its results. I'll take two dollars back for every dollar wagered and be quite happy. As I had expected, the ease of inputting data left me more time and a better frame of mind in which to handicap.

You really deserve to give yourself an "attaboy" for this Ted.

First day indeed!

Congratualtions, that's quite an accomplishment. Now just continue doing the same things over and over again. Am sure Ted will appreciate the "attaboy" however you played a part as well. he already knows how to make these programs pay, and it looks as though you're bending the learning curve in the right direction.

Your observation that the ease of inputting frees the mind for other - more important - matters is well noted and seconded by this observer. Keep up the good work.

Regards,
Chris

Thank you Bill and Chris

Oh, I'm walking on air right now, humming while handicapping tomorrow's Saratoga card - which has 5 maiden heats out of 10 races.

Looks more like a Wednesday card than a weekend one.

Clore,
Looks like you really got your feet wet.
Congratulations are in order.
Maiden races are just as good as any of the rest as far as I am concerned.
(The same goes for poly tracks as well.)
Maidens seem to run more honestly than the rest and you don't have much hidden from view concerning back class or injury's. What you see is what you get.

Good luck and good capping.

Maidens

I don't mind them when there are no more than two without any running lines. Overall I tend to be conservative in my spot selections and try to not deal with too many unknowns.

I'll still handicap them, but not necessarily wager on them, or just make a token bet.

BTW, good luck in your contest, I've lurked through many of your threads.
