Val4 Issues
I don't know if my VAL4 download is corrupt or if TMPPs changed, but I keep getting "Error DBFNTX/1001 Open Error: RACEDR.DBF/THRJDR.DBF/etc... (DOS Error 2) and no races coming up for Santa Anita today. Is there a fix? Do I have to delete a file or files from my VAL4 folder? Am I possibly missing files required to run the data? I'm using DOSBOX with my TRKMAST folder within the VAL4 directory per previous instruction. Getting very frustrated. Thanks.

So I load VAL4 on VirtualBox Windows XP no problems. Something is funky with DOSBOX.

Working on it
Hey Jeeps
Or anybody , I too keep wrestling with how to get Val4 to work on my newer computers with windows 10, I have not been successful yet, In the mean time , this may sound like a cop out but if you can find in a garage sale or online like at a bidding site , a little notebook with windows 8.1 ,the cheaper the better, Val 4 works right from the c drive with a desk top icon. Just like it was built to. You don't need dosbox or anything else. Bill |

Hi Bill... I went through this with Spec160.. If your computers are 64 bit you aren't going to be able to run a DOS program. DOSbox or not. Unless something changed in the last 4 months. The notebooks you describe are 32 bit and they can run it from the desktop. Good luck. I miss being able to run the Speculator program too. I could be wrong about this but I don't think so.

I don't have any old programs, but was having a read through this and got thinking.
Being a kid that grew up with Space Invaders etc I have emulator that allows me to run those old roms & play the games. SO I started thinking was there some sort of thing that could run 32bit programs on a 64 machine. Maybe this could help? https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/lib...(v=vs.85).aspx |
