Customized headings/grouping

In RDSS Ted has added a way to place horses into 3 groups

The default settings are Primary, Secondary and Non Contender
horses are placed in these 3 groups by selecting either the WIN , ITM,
or unselecting both these boxed

I have highlighted/ shaded the Win and ITM boxes I am referring to

They are located just to the right of the APV and Class ratings and to the left of the earnings box for each horse

Using the Win and the ITM boxes will place your horses into the 3 default groupings

If you want to get creative like me Here is how you can edit the captions
to place horses in groups that you prefer,
I place my horses in 3 groups Early Pressers and Sustained

In the next post, i will show how I do this.

Tick Pad

Thanks everyone

Ted has added so many tools for me.
Being a Phase 1 user, The ability to use grouping really helps me
with my match up and phase 1 analysis

Early - Who has an advantage, can it go wire to wire?

Pressers - Can they stay close enough to the early pace horses
without using too much energy, Is their late pace rating strong enough to
over take the early horse

Sustained - Will these types have good enough EPRs to be able to
stay within range of the early pace
and make a move in the 3rd fraction

OldPR65 (and everyone) -

This method Bill describes for creating alternate names for Groups is what we call a 'hack', namely something you can do with software but which is 'beneath the surface' and actually not supported (yet, or maybe never).

I did create that ability to name Groups for Bill, and shared with a few others who may or may not use it still - but if it is ever properly supported in RDSS 2.1, its use will be built into the normal Configure Settings Tab, easy to apply, and properly documented.

Until then, folks are free to use it but I don't want to provide support for it (just takes up too much time ...). Bill or anyone else who understands it is more than welcome to advise people how to use it.

I made this Group naming trick BEFORE I made the general ability to SORT screens by many columns on each Analysis screen. IMO (and others' opinion, I think) - you can achieve the SAME effect of sorting ALL Analysis screens by Running Styles (i.e. Earliest to Latest) for visualizing Matchup by RUnning Style - by simply clicking on the RS (Running Style) column header on any Analysis screen. Agreed, this new Sorting ability does not put each Running Style in a separate GROUP (and put a line break between groups and a nice Group caption), but it does sort any Groups you may have (i.e. the normal Primary Contenders, Secondary Contenders, Non-Contenders) by Running Style in the order F-E-EP-P-SP-S - the same as the order of the Running Style buttons above the running positions section on Original Screens.

Hint: on any Analysis screen, if you hover the mouse over a Column Header in the green header section and the mouse cursor turns to a 'hand' Icon - that means you can SORT by that column. Plus, on any screen, the 'sort column' has a blue underline beneath the column header to remind you how that screen is currently sorted. Try various columns on various Analysis screens (I'm pretty sure this new sorting ability is in Mick's latest RDSS 2.1 Documentation set).

The only comment I want to make about this 'hack' is that you must add the lines to your Config file which Bill is pointing to above. They will not normally be there (because this is unsupported ).

Per Bill's image above, here are the lines you can cut and paste somewhere in the [General] section of your Config File:
Groupby_caption1=whatever you want as caption for Early
Groupby_caption2=whatever you want as caption for Presser
Groupby_caption3=whatever you want as caption for Sustained
Again, if anyone wants to support this or help people to use it - they are most welcomed. I prefer not to give more support or advice for this just now. FWIW, I personally think it is not necessary, given the above described RS Running Style sort ability.

OldPR65 (and others) - I hope this is useful!

Ted
