Steve

Yes I'm sorry for the delay

Yes I would use the 85 for # 6 it finally won its maiden race
and got a 78 in the NW1ALw The 85 is supported by line 8
and Yes the 5 becomes a binder improver

If I bet two horse to win and If I used these same lines as you used
I would have lost
The 5 did pay over $5.00 Place I don't know the final odds
it went off but I may have bet it wps or under the "hide"
horse #1 in an exacta

Notice the #1 ranks in DCL, LPR and FX. And FX despite no EPR to speak of (FX = average of F1 + F3). I'm sure if you go to the Velocity screen, you'll find the F3 velocity is huge, compared to everyone else. Best be sure the Total Energy is not too low compared with everyone else, otherwise it simply earns those rankings by decelerating the least because it was the slowest horse and disbursing it all in F3.

Bill thanks for explaining the Binder Improver. And,Ted thanks for the usage considerations.

I have one more question for either of you or any other experience user of RDSS or Spec 160. (1) Do you select the pacelines of all entries and then run the analysis to get to the BLBL output followed by reducing to 5 contenders at this time? or (2) Do you handicap the race first and enter only the preferred 5 contenders?

Thanks,

Robert

Robert,

I'll speak for myself. I don't necessarily enter a line for every horse. I will quickly go to the 3+ Class Rating coloured horses (and APV), then other horses who can finish well recently, also NTL Earlies, entering one or more lines for them as necessary. If this gives me 5 or 6 lines, I'll then visit the more suspicious horses and demand they be in the top 5 or 6 Total Energy, OR have run evenly or perhaps attempted to close against a fast pace. If a horse has no colour at the Stretch or Finish and the PoR is slow and they don't fall in the top 5 Total Energy, since I can use the RDSS 3rd (lower) Analysis panel to see how all the horses stack up on any screen, I'll skip horses who are just too slow.

One caveat: If a horse does have lower Total Energy and would otherwise be a candidate for such skipping, I'll check the Early/Late differential (E/L+TPR screen, or the E/L Diff numeric column on several other Analysis screens) to see if they are ALL Early, or wild Late and thus would qualify as either a match for the E/L profile for today's track/surface/distance or a counter-energy profile (i.e. most opposite energy disbursement style to today's win contenders) and thus candidates for Place.

Ted

Hello Robert
I do these steps each time I do a race
First I look at the three shaded ApV CR
horses, I then look at all the horses in the race and enter a line for
any horse I can
here is a actual demo of how I picked Race 6 today at Philly Park
Its a easy race to demo because its only a 6 horse field
In this demo race I entered at least 1 line for every horse but
if I have no usable lines I dont enter a line

Thanks The video looks best in full screen for me anyway

Thanks Bill for not only answering my question on pace line but graciously taking the time to make a very clear and helpful video on the subject. I have said it before but it is worth repeating---this Pace and Cap site is truly a special place and I am so glad to be a member.

Robert,
I don't agree with Bill exactly.
In picking his contender pace lines he used a line for the #3 that was on a gd track.
I would have used the next line down as I believe the Doc said never use lines from an off track.
Doing this would have placed the #3 further down on VDC and BL/BL.
The winner #2 would have been on top with top TT and HID which means he is projected to be running strong from the last 2/3 of the race.
It's nice when the top rated horse pays $9.00.
This is still good work, Thanks Bill.
