Class Adjustments in RDSS ?
Is there any adjustments in RDSS for a drop in class or a bump-up in class?

Terry,
There is not a class adjustment in RDSS. Class, meaning presumed calibre of race competition based on race conditions. For race conditions which are reasonably close together or across different tracks/circuits (e.g. conditioned claiming, conditioned allowances) we let final and incremental time measurements do the gross rating of the horses and then let some understanding of how a horse typically will move among its conditions at a given track further qualify whether the horse is suited to today's competition - as best we can. See some of For the Lead's posts on reading and understanding conditions in the RDSS Teaching Forum. My view is that an attempt at modifying ranking which are otherwise primarily based on time (i.e. velocity and compounded factors) with those based on a numerical rating of race class (by whatever means) leads to as many inaccuracies (and missed opportunities) as accuracies. The recent race you commented on (DMR July 18 Race 7) is a pretty good example (IMO) of 'class' judgements being easy to make that no additional manipulation of the numbers is necessary. Sometimes this is not always so, but for myself, I don't usually feel confused about how to treat perceived changes in 'class' level, so perhaps several detailed examples to discuss some consistently applicable approaches would be in order. Feel free to suggest some races, before or after the fact, where judging 'class' suitability is an issue in ranking the contenders, and perhaps we can clarify what tools there are and aren't in RDSS to deal with that aspect of things. Ted
