Out of respect for the departed, let's keep that issue at least for a separate thread - or better, not at all. So many years ago, inter-personal issues don't even matter anymore, IMO. Ted

RIP Michael Pizzola
I actually have a copy of his book, "Handicapping Magic"; it is a solid book, and I too enjoyed his YouTube rants on the Triple Crown & Breeders Cup.
All the good guys are leaving us too soon. Tell your family that you love them at every opportunity. God Bless the Pizzola Family. Jon |

Condolences to Michael's Family
Wanda and I met Michael in 1986 at our first Sartin Methodology.
Seminar. He was a bright articulate young man. Later i found out he was one of the hardest working Pirco members. His honesty as a businessman was impressive. We also enjoyed his magic acts performed at Seminar dinners. You wiii be missed my friend. Bob and Wanda Cochran |

Yes, let's keep negative remarks and animosity for anyone off this site. Doc and Michael had issues but they're both departed. Let us remember the good times and incorporate their instructions and guidelines in our work.

Michael P.
Hi all :
I met Michael at the 1987 Saratoga Seminar. Then again the following winter when he and Bert Mayne put on 2 mini-clinics in Albany. I also had the nerve-wracking pleasure of being in his one week class in Vegas with him and Dick Schmidt a few years after that. Mike was a gracious guy. After that Albany seminar, I wrote to him in NYC. He wrote back and gave me his phone number at his law firm. When I called him the next week, his secretary put him on the line. The first thing he said was "how did you get my number?" I said "you gave it to me". Then he said "hold on while I close my office door". We then talked about pace handicapping for at least 45 minutes in the middle of that work day. If anyone wanted to gain insight on his ability in handicapping, just run through his day at Santa Anita in the Energy manual. I emailed him just a few years ago about something, and he graciously wrote back. We talked about the Vegas weeklong seminar, which Howard had a lot of bad things to say about. But it all has to be chalked up to part of the learning curve. Lastly, during that week in Vegas, Bob Purdy, creator of Synergism, made a surprise visit. I spoke to him for only a few minutes. What he said to me directly was that handicapping has to be an individual pursuit. In the end, we all take what Howard and Michael and the original guys gave us and make it our own. Funny, yesterday and today, I went 3 for 5, with an average mutuel of $10.54. Just what the Doctor ordered! Best regards, Chuck W. |
