Energy Program Questions
It occurs to me we have someone here that can best answer these questions.
When should one consider using the (C)hange Variegate procedure? Adjustments #1, auto # 2 Alternate Adjustment, Number #3 Manual (E) Adjustment. When would you want to use the alternate adjustment rather than the Manual (E) Adjustment? Should the Variegare predictor take precedence over the EMUV,SMUV, and UXR readings? I know people want to ask Match-Up questions, but for me ENERGY! and THOROMATION has been the MATCH-UP for me. Thanks. |

Energy Adjustments
I have used the Energy program since the mid 1980's. One of the earliest use was in the Northwest at the old Longacres racetrack. There were a number of seminars in Seattle. The manuals left out a lot of information, some of it very important. The manuals, as far as I know, were never updated.
Here are the adjustments I have used for years. Naturally I think they are the best. Adjustments: #2 Alternate was never used. Dr. Sartin said it unpredictable and was disabled on later versions. #1 Auto. I use this if the horses are from the same track and structure. (All sprints, or all routes). Also the same track condition. If the horses are from different tracks, but less than 2 points difference in total energy I also use the auto adjust. #3 More than 2 points in total energy and from different tracks, use the manual adjustment. Sprinters in routes use this adjustment whether they are from the same or different tracks. Changing varigate: only change the 0 Muv horse. Use it if you do not think the horse can go wire to wire. Some things to look at: Not in the top three UXR. Not first or second paragon A. Fraction one with a percentage over 36.00. (This is a good factor to model). It is often not a reliable factor for two and three year olds. If I decide the varigate needs to be changed I usually just scratch the horse. This works best for me. Worth checking out. |

Peter, that is some very good advice and suggestions you have given me. You are correct in that some of these things were omitted in the manuals. Some good information was in some of the older Follow-Ups on ENERGY. I was able to go to several seminars where I learned more about the program.
I always wondered when to use the alternate adjustment, and from your answer I would say never use it. Also I agree with you when to use the manual adjustment. Also what you say about droppping the 0.00 MUV horse instead of changing the variegate is probably a better way to go in most cases. This will make the variegate predictor more accurate. Anyone else that is using Energy should take note of the advice Peter has given us. Thanks for the response---Houndog. |

I am sending Gary all my Follow Ups and other manuals (those not already done) to scan to PDF. Also the Index I have to various FU topics through issues 30-40 (?) Hounddog, if you've already started on this, maybe we should synchronize...

Older Follow-Ups
Ted, I have older Follow-Ups so I just need what you are sending to Gary than I can send the older ones that you don't have. I don't have every older issue, but do have many of them. I will make up a listing of what I do have before the end of this week, and put this list on the BBS.

I have them all 1 - 87, and several manuals, e.g. Thoromation (gold cover), The Paceline (Yellow), Dynamics of Incremental energy, Expo '90 (pink), Tandem Race.
Gary has (or should soon have) my FU 1-18. Glad to send him the rest, but let me know if you want to send some, and I send some. PM me if you want to talk to co-ordinate. Ted

Kentucky Derby Revisted
Just following some of Peter's guidance on the 0.00 MUV horse. The before and after. This is with Sinister Minister included.

Kentucky Berby #2
Notice how Sinister Minister had the highest UXR and deficient 3 fraction. Instead of changing variegate just toss him. In the Energy Generator he came up as early with a med energy of nearly 69%.
