When I picked this one I didn't quite realize how tough it was. Even Pete balked. I would probably pass it too but I guess I should be a sport and play my own posts.

I see this the way Bill does. Best Early against Best Late.

Tampa Bay Race #5:
This race comes down to the 2, 4, and 10 tandem and to the 5. In turf races, I'm a big fan of internal fractions. Hidden energy and late pace win these kind of races frequently. Like others, I don't think the 2 will make it. The 9 may apply some pressure. The 10's best races are near the lead; a bad place to be in this race. This leaves the 4 and 5. The 5 didn't run well against a slow pace. Against a fast pace, however, in the last race and the 4th race back, he ran well. The 5 is my choice. I'll look at the other races tomorrow. Good Luck. In regards to the Tampa race. I ended up with a pace of 46.3 (5ths) and 70.3. Then when it comes to a final time where my pace horse ran an adjusted 103.8 another horse has a 103.0 but off much slower early fractions. How does one go about figuring which final time to use. The horse with the fastest final time is about 8 lengths off the early pace and gains about 5-6 in the stretch which would leave it behind but with actual posted final times faster.
If this race was at 8.0 furlongs, I would take the #2 to wire the field but at 8.5f today, I like the 4 and 7. Ray |
