Tailing horses in the gate

The gate crew has to stand close behind many a "bad actor" and actively pull on it's tail to keep them from flipping. Many times (understandably) the horse doesn't care for this and kicks: often right into the chest of the crew behind it.

I have a photo here to show but I can't seem to be able to attach it.

here is that shot of the assistant starters pulling on the tail to keep a horse from rearing..
