MEC just announced filing for reorganization and that Lone Star Park is up for sale. While I don't want to wish bad things on the employees, I can't say I'm sorry to see them go if they can sell LSP. They haven't spent much, if any on the simucast area in years. Chairs busted, tvs won't work, etc, etc.

However, the employees are very nice (this is Texas) and the food is good.

Lets hope a new owner will breath new live in it, and if Texas will approve racinos it could be as we originally envisioned it, a major player in the industry, competing with all of the adjoining states that have purses boosted with slots.

Above all - Lone Star needs Local ownership that actually cares about Horse Racing in Texas. Racino isn't the answer either - Accept for The Fair Grounds - LA, OK, NM are still running cheap-o claiming races (3k, 4k, 5k and 7.5k). Racinos didn't raise level of racing there. Just bunch dogs running for bigger purses.

Lone Star needs adopt the Sol Cal model of racing.
Drop quarterhorse racing and have a Spring Meet and Fall Meet
Spring Meet starts First weekend in March to Sunday after The Belmont
Fall Meet starts Mid August to Sunday after Breeders Cup .
Raise the bottom levels to 10k claimering and 32k Maiden Claiming let the dogs run across the broaders and lower tier tracks in Texas
