Passing Races
Hi everybody,I'm having trouble deciding when to pass races at post time.I wondered if I could get some opinions on the criteria you use to decide this? Also I wondered what races you don't wager cap at all. Thanks Jim

Hi
Here is what I look for I will look into any race that has or fits this these races are regular betting races only 1. Non maiden only 2. The race must have 6 or more horses 3. Every horse has to have at least 3 North American pace lines 4. If its a sprint no more than 1 router 5. If its a route no more than 2 sprinters 6. If its a dry surface no off track pace lines more than 1 horse 7 No more than 1 poly on dirt or dirt on poly 8. Turf routes only no sprints or hills 9. Turf routes only with all routers no First time turf attempts 10 Race is on the same surface its carded for no off the turf races but usually these end up short fields anyway I will make a bet in any race that fits I will pass any that have any issues listed above If the race is clean but the odds on both of my top 2 horses are less than 5/2 at about 3 minutes to post I will pass |

Bill V., Your guidelines are excellant.
I try to follow these for my betting races. For contest play in the pic4 I rarely find two BETTABLE races out of the 4. We should all paste your guidelines on our computers and follow them. Thanks for posting them. rmath |

JIMBOB1002 you might find at this time of year a play but from someone who does this full time the plays are few and far between. For value a closer who ends up top is where I will place my money. Don't oversell yourself on borderline horses. As Ray Taulbot would say don't look or imagine something that is not there. Many have said lone speed might be the play, where others have said two dimentional horses that negate say a lone speed or closer is the play. But before you fall into that trap let your gut be the answer because over time your gut won't lie to you. As Michael Pizzolla says over and over again, "Let The Bet Make You". Numbers are numbers and many fool themselves into believing they know the inside of the numbers and to that I say "NADA" the numbers maybe a starting point, but remember each race is a one off and yes sometimes things maybe duplicated, but I would never depend on that happening. If your gut is not all in then pass.
