California Chrome - Derby Winner!
California Chrome - the real deal, made it look easy and a bargain at 5/2. The only real shocker was Commanding Curve finishing 2nd at 37-1, spoiling most peoples' (including my) Exactas, Tris and Supers ...
Onwards to the next stop in the Triple Crown! Ted

Had him on a bunch of p3 and p4 tickets but was rooten for some others...the .50 pic 3 for the Oaks Woodford Reserve and Derby paid a whopping $4.25 ....Everytime that Wise Dan is involved in a p3 or 4 the payoffs are always low...wish he would retire...ok on to the Preakness....looks like in 5 weeks Cal Chrome will be shooting for the Triple Crown...sure can't see any of these beating him in the Preakness.......

My hedge on Chrome was the only Derby bet I cashed...like Ted said, the 17 placing uncovered was an expensive oversight. But you can't bet em all.
Next!

Buckpasser
My suggestion to all our friends is to read the article by Stanley Caris in may edition of American Turf, "Handicapping the Kentucky Derby". The 1-2 winners had Buckpasser in their Pedigree. A look at his pedigree is somethiong to see. Mike Pastore

Just like Golden Soul
Dallas Stewart has trained the runner-up in the Kentucky Derby for two years in a row.
Some tidbits.. Thorograph promoted the chances of Commanding Curve in their Derby Analysis. One poster's private clocker had Commanding Curve outworking Golden Soul easily and timed his work in 58.89 for five furlongs instead of his official published work. CCurve went his last quarter in 22.0 seconds and galloped out in 12....outstanding work!! But with that said, works are generally deceiving, the three horses that worked the best Derby week were Candy Boy, Medal Count and Danza... |
