#10 was 3-1 with 0 minutes to post.
I bet him to win. He won, but only paid 6/5 after all was said and done. I also bet #1 Win-Place-Show. Was he the second best horse? No, but as a general rule of thumb I always bet a $100 horse if he's anywhere in top three VDC rankings. #1 was 52-1 with 0 minutes to post. There's not a month that goes by where I don't hit one of these monsters. I wound up making small profit on this race, but had the potential for a nice score. All you have to do is overcome your fear, trust the readouts and be patient. #4 was way overbet as the favorite.
#2 was on the rail sitting behind the leaders. He seemed shocked when they didn't open up like the Sea of Galilee for him. There was a direct correlation between the measure of his astonishment and the size of my win bet on him. Maiden turf races, especially maiden claimers can be very lucrative. Are they difficult to handicap? You betcha. However, they're just as hard for everyone else to figure out. And we've got an edge -- we've got better tools than most.
Based on the odds right now this doesn't look like a moneymaker. As my friend, Floyd, is fond of saying, "It be that way sometimes." |

The winner had a "wake up call" in its last race, but I didn't think it was enough to use her.
