Good Race Against Today's Pace of Race
Can anyone tell me what the small red, green and yellow blocks in the paceline on the Original Screen are(Ted)? I am assuming they are Good Race against today's POR. If so, how are they selected? I like to use them for a starting point but some don't seem to make any sense. Thanks in advance. Greg

Hi Ted....
I know it will be time consuming but maybe you can put a sticky in this section on how to use RDSS from start to finish (downloading files, paceline selections, interpretation of numbers)...There will be a lot of new comers that are really not familiar with the methodology (including me) that will be asking questions pertaining to how to use this and what each screen means. just a thought mike

Please refer to the Release Notes for RDSS Version 0.97.8 (http://www.sartinmethodology.com/pub...Notes_0978.pdf), point #7, Page 3, which describes the derivation and usage of the Powerline Indicator markups (the little coloured squares next to the Original Final Times). This should give you what you need to know to use Powerlines, if you choose to. Note: all the recent Release Notes are listed in the Release Notes Topic in the RDSS Info Forum (http://www.paceandcap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5300). This is a good source of understanding various different features of the software (along with the various videos). As described, the Powerline Indicators are a beginning point in determining what a horse is capable of running well against, and are part of a collection of tools (incomplete) for practicing the Matchup, as taught by Jim Bradshaw and RichieP. Consider them as one alternate approach to choosing a lines (or lines) to represent a horse in today's contest. I would advise not adopting it blindly unless you also see that a horse appears reasonably fit in a recent part of their form cycle and has any estimated ability to replicate that performance today. You also need to consider the likely Projected Pace today according to the mix of Earlies and Other than Earlies, to identify whether a horse will be able to run against the POR you arre potentially selecting for it (using these Powerline Indicator markers), or will need to run that fast today. As described in the Release Notes, this is one of a collection of tools (incomplete so far) assisting in the Matchup, and should be used in context of Jim Bradshaws 5 Step approach (please see the Hat Check Forum). Specifically, a line is ranked as to Total Energy of the Pace of Race (NOT Pace of the Horse) if the horse a) finished in the money, OR b) finished less than a length off the winner, OR ran 1st or 2nd or beaten less than a length at each of the first 3 calls (i.e. faded in the stretch). This is the definition (so far) of 'finished or ran well'. The top 3 ranked lines are shown coloured RED, GREEN, YELLOW regardless of timeframe, distance or surface.

Someday - I swear this year - there will be a new formal run through of all readouts, navigation widgets, recommended processes, updated videos, etc to teach the new users how to make the best use of RDSS. The next version or the one after that should have 'balloon-style' tool-tips for each readout and factor, as well as a centrally collected reference manual of all the usage. This kind of documentation takes time, as you pointed out, let alone updating the software itself (and helping new folks get up to speed). In the meanwhile, we have a distributed collection of very good notes from various users, plus the periodic Release Notes. Thanks Buzz for collecting a bunch of them together again all in one place! Ted
