WW welcome to P&C. I don't know if you are using RDSS or not. The best I can tell you is that if you are using RDSS you will find most times the line the program selects is right on the mark. I use the best of the last 3 comparable with good results. Being new you may want to test on paper trying both ways and see which works best for you. Usually a 100 race survey each way is enough. As you get comfortable doing races you will develop a feel as when to stay recent or to go back for a line. Remember these are guidelines not hard and fast rules.

Thanks Tim.
I am using RDSS2 and am happily working with real and paper money.
I will say the thing I am learning the most is when I feel I shouldn't bet a race. It's usually been due to too many FTS, too many foreign horses without US record, and when there are too many low priced horses.
Other than that I've had the usual "been beaten by the favorite" and "winners with RDSS2".
I certainly am losing, but at $4 a race (2 win bets at $2), there are enough lessons to be learned that hurt, but not too much.
When I'm comfortable with seeing the stories of previous races in the PP's and with interpreting RDSS2 read-outs I will increase bets to, say maybe, $5 per win bet).
LOL

Very important to know when to pass. Doc recommended passing a race with 2 or more unknown factors such as FTS, or FH. I find that by confining my play to races fro 3 & up on the dirt I eliminate most races with question marks. Good luck with your capping.

Best

Hello WW
Sorry for the delay I have been traveling
The last line in my original post is a + line because the horse finished 3rd
It was beaten by 5 but because of the in the money finish it makes it a
+ line

Good skill as you move along and continue to learn

I do suggest to read the last few follow ups. I think #80 to #88
are vital if you are using RDSS2 as a beginner

Listen to LT and Mitch and Ted

Learn the concepts of the methodology as it applies to racing today
not the 1980's

Trust the adjusted readouts. Then bet based on final odds of your top rated horses.
I guarantee you will do very well and make a nice profit with $5 bets ,

Bill

If you are still learning to use RDSS, i highly suggest playing on paper for the time being. When you start to show a profit playing on paper, than i would start betting with real money, it is a tough game to beat, even with years of experience. In the beginning it can be a bit overwhelming in reference to RDSS, and that may have an adverse affect on your mindset when it comes to wagering. Something to think about....

Best of Luck!
