The Florida Derby
For setup I used the tandem race. Paclines: last for all. No manual adjustments. I don't have a real warm, fuzzy feeling about this race. Can #8 Flashpoint steal this on the front end? I'm not sure, but if the odds warrant it may be a good bet. |

I am suspicious of Flashpoint. He is certainly on the improve, and will likely do so again today. But to WIN at 9 furlongs - unknown. Betting on an unproven improvement...? He should be there in exotics though.
I like the class performances of #2 To Honor and Serve and #6 Stay Thirsty. Ted

Flashpoint has a big positive and big negative.
He owns two fractions, so the closers are a disadvantage, but he has a weak F3, so the closers will benefit. Hmmmmm. Who said this was easy? I like FP and Dialed In, who has the next best TT and the big F3 to go with it. I think Soldat will not fire today, at least not for long. Nice readouts - I always break out the old DOS programs this time of year. |

Nice picking khannamark, Tom and Bill V.
Tom, you're right of course about Flashpoint's weak F3. I had to turn my eyes away from that when I bet him to win and place. Want to hear something sick? One of the guys in our group, a doctor who doesn't really know anything about horseracing, bet ten bucks on the race and hit for $10,000. I'm desperately grasping for a moral to this story. This race sure didn't pan out the way I thought it would. Heck, Shackleford almost took it. |
