Running Style
I am going through the race card for PARX today. I keep having the same problem with picking running styles. I let RDSS pick them, as I am picking Pace lines, I check the running styles to adjust if needed.
example: 11/12/13 Race 2 Golden Rule, RDSS has P2 ( I understand RDSS might be off, this is why I go through and change the styles) F1 F2 Pace Line 1 3 2 2 5 5 3 7 5 4 6 6 5 11 8 As I understand it, I use the 1st Fraction for the running styles I picked the 1st pace line to use in the race, that would make the horse a Presser, It is a Plus Line and Placed in the money. But I it looks to me like S or SP. This happens all the time to me, I have been taken more time in picking pace lines and that has made a big difference in my handicapping. Now I hit a wall with running styles Thanks for any help |

Running Styles
Horse 2 Golden Rule
Hi I would agree with RDSS2 for this horse Looking at her position at the break, the first fraction and second call She has no interest in getting the lead so she is not a E or EP Looking at position calls of her + races She does move up. In line 1 she improved 3rd to 2nd to the lead. In line 3 her win line, she improved 7th to 5th to 1st In line 6, once she figured out what was going on in her first race she went from 11th to 8th to 4th to 2nd I would call her a P or SP depending on how much early pressure she will face in today's race That is how i look at running styles Good Skill Bill |

OK, the running style is based on the race itself. Figure out the race itself or how it's going to run. Then base the running style on that race. The running style of a horse can change depending on the race. That would explain why sometimes you see a horse with different run styles.
On horses with a Run Style that runs 3rd at F1 most of the time is always going to be a Presser. On horses like that, I'll just stay with the basic rule of thumb for Run Styles. Is that how I am to understand it? |

Break to F1
Quote:
A horse that breaks 5th but goes to 3rd at the first fraction and a horse that breaks first but settles to 3rd at the first fraction are using their energy differently. Running styles are also a product of the pace of race a horse ran against. GS Bill |

The Doc always counseled that one look at the successful races to get the horses running style. Based on this horses two good races showing designating her as a P or SP is right on. If the horse is forced to run differently today, it will have trouble.

Thanks Bill, That would be an E or EP in that race. If it's the race that makes up the running style. When I go through the result charts at the end of the day and record where the winner was at F1 an F2. It doesn't really tell me anything because, the race will determine the style. Is there a better way to keep records of running styles.
