Exactas
I know you only put your win contenders in the program. How do you go about getting your horses for an exacta? Some of these that you leave out could end up running 2nd.Jeff

Jeff:
If I could hit eactas I would be retired. It always seems that some crazy horse runs second. That is why I bet trifectas as selection #1-all-selection #2. I hit a lot of nice ones that way. Also try pick3 bets. Energy is for winner selection. Look at the Manual 55% solution if you are really interested in exactas. It should be posted. Gary |

Betting gimmicks
While using dated material works just fine what works even better is betting the live runners. The honest horse wins its share of races, the live horse has to use it or lose it, so running for second means a check for the connections who also bet the exacta. It does not hurt to box the live runners in a exacta provided there is value in the race like Sunday at Churchill.

I have to agree with Gary on the 55% solution for Exactas. It has some good ideas. As far as Energy is concerned I have noticed for me horses that have 0.00's in any of the columns in the Exdc Match-Up screen are in the money many times. Also if the horse has an even UXR such as .0125 and .0125 these (for me) also seem to come in the money often. The even UXR works better provided the UXR is low in comparison to the other horses. If the horse has a high UXR it is not nearly as effective.
I have boxed all the horses that have had 0.00's in the Match-Up Exdc screen, or just boxed all the horses showing up on both the early and late Exdc-Matchup. Energy though is still better used for your win contenders. I would be careful with these suggestions I am giving here. This just might be the way I pick pacelines and contenders. I sort of make a mental note to myself who my win contenders are, and horses that I might want to consider for exacta's based on these secondary read-outs. |

Jeff:
All of the suggestions above are very good. BUT, they must be applied with the right level of discipline. REMEMBER, focus on cashing WIN tickets until such time as you are VERY confident in your handicapping ability. Gary |
