Betting 2 horses a race a debatable issue

A handicapper betting 2 horses a race would need to win at a 50% rate at an average 9.60 mutual for a 20% ROI.

My opinion... with modern software, there are races identifiable as singles. Not all races should be bet multiple horses. Conversely, I remember a 9-horse race with a horrible heavy favorite where the all button would earn a small profit.

With the mutual needed for a 20% ROI, It would obviously be a spot play situation IMO.

I prefer dodging the types of races at which I suck. Maidens, NW1Y and such.

For me, the "sweetspot" when betting 2 horses to win is 6, e.g. 2-1 and 4-1 or 3-1 and 3-1. Here is a chart that I posted before.
