Dirt to Turf

What did Doc have to say about a horse going from dirt to turf for the first time?

Dirt to turf

Hi Terry

Doc writes about this a few times in the follow ups.

Basically horses with not enough early speed on the dirt are moved to the turf
Turf horse use their energy more sustained. A horse with a low number on its
EPR to LPR differential (TPR Screen)that has been unable to win on the dirt often will be moved to the turf.

Here is a write up by Marion Jones that you might find helpful
from follow Up 27 page 43

Dirt and Turf

Hi, typically, a "firm" grass course will produce a faster time than a dirt racing surface. When excessive moisture is present in the turf, the clockings can be considerably slower than dirt. This notable variance with grass is the principle reason why computer handicapping turf races presents an inherently greater risk.
Here is a valuable rule for handicappers to remember: Good horses that run well on the dirt, usually run well on the turf. However, horses that run well on the turf do not necessarily run well on the dirt.

Thanks.
