Starters Allowance
FTL
can you help with this ? Here is a horse from todays 2nd race Today's race is a SA 16,000 n3X Here are the conditions I see it as today any horse who has been entered in a $16000 claiming race is eligible, as long as it has not won 3 races What I don't understand is line 1 for One Smart Filly is that X after the 3 - SA25/30 N3X for It looks like to me the only difference between the conditions for Line 1 and line 2 is the 2 wins and 3 wins Do you know what that 3X means ? Here are todays conditions and those for line 1 and 2 Thanks Bill Last edited by Bill V.; 05-07-2013 at 05:34 PM. |

Actually, today's condition is the following: This would look like "NW3L". Now, compare this to a condition that will be coming up on May 12th, which is: I couldn't find the "exact" condition I was looking for, which was, "which have started for a claiming price of "X" or less and which have never won three races other than maiden, claiming, etc", so I had to settle for "non winners of a race other than, etc", which will look like "NW1X". If the condition was , in fact, as I type it above, it would be represented by "NW3X", just like you would find in an ALLOWANCE or OPTIONAL CLAIMING race. So there is a big difference between NW3L and NW3X, as you already know. OK, where I am stumped is, the 9th race on April 16th. The result chart shows the following: As you can see, the full condition is not there, but they do show NW3X, so I am a little confused on this one myself. I have it as a NW2L condition. Just keep in mind that Starter Allowance races come with a variety of conditions. Aside from the stated claiming price, the rest of the condition could be; NW2L NW3L NW4L NW1X NW2X NW3X Sometimes they add a second condition, like the upcoming race on 5.12.13. Not only can a horse qualify on the NW1X part of the condition, but it can also qualify by having NOT won 4 races lifetime. Sometimes it just says "which have started for "X" claiming price or less in 2012-2013" and other varieties along that line WITHOUT any other condition. Remember, a racing secretary can make up just about any condition he wants to make up for the benefit of filling races for the horses stabled on his grounds.

Mile SA races
Thanks FTL
I am not sure which is the correct condition for Line 1 It makes sense that it was a SA N2-L because it won the race I doubt the connections would place it in a NW3X with just 1 win I happen to have had my Parx 1 mile database open Here is a list of the various 1 mile Starter Allowance races that have run at Parx so far 1n 2013 There seems to be 2 basic SA levels SA 25 and SA 16 with these restrictions N2-L N3-L There is a SA8000 condition were the claiming race must have been sometime in 2011 and 2013 There also is a NW1x or N4-L |

Just to show the variety of conditions you might come across, the following is an SA at PEN, 3rd race, 5.8.13. Note that there is no rhyme or reason to the cutoff date. It's just a little over 9 months. WHY?? It's an odd distance for cheap claimers, especially at PEN. You might want to look for a horse that "needs" this date in order to qualify for the race.

Turf
Thank you again FTL
Yes that's is a odd distance for Penn I wonder if they wrote it figuring it would fill with horses who need the extra distance work for the upcoming turf season A nice way to get ready and not risk the claim ? Bill |
