Stretch

Hi . Wow what a nice story !
Yes Willie McCovey was my favorite player . Sure there was Wilie Mays and Bobby Bonds Juan Marachel and all the Good players
But I rooted for Stretch .
Willie McCovey is kind of the reason I became a Giants fan . As a kid growing up in North Jersey everybody was a Yankee or
Mets fan. About the time I started to watch baseball my friend from across the street who was from a family of Yankee fans
Had just come back from a vacation to California. One Day playing in his garage I saw a black baseball hat with and orange
SF on the front. I asked my friend about the hat, He said his dad brought it for him when they were in San Fransisco
He just wore it on the trip but never anymore. I asked if I could see it he got it down and I put it on
A few days later we were playing and my friend asked his dad If I could have the hat
His dad said sure and I became a SF giants fan. As a kid I was always tall for my age So my friends called me Stretch
Back then The only time I saw The Giants was when the Mets played them I was way to young to see
the 62 world series against the Yankees. when I found out that Willie McCovey was called stretch too he became my favorite
He always hit well against the Mets so I saw him at his best he bounced around alittle in the mid 70's but came back to
The Giants to be a very good pinch hitter.

Sad how he went out unhappy but They love him in San Fransisco And Now there is McCovey Cove over the right field fence
in his honor
