The BL BL

Here is my BLBL

I went with the 1a and the 5 the top two choices
I passed on the # 3 and # 2
The 5 was an easy choice and it won @7.60

I went to the 1 Entry because both halfs made my top 5 and the hard 1 had the 2nd best APV CR

The 3 seemed like it had to much to overcome with just a
54.0 % apv These were basicaly maiden winners
Doc's guidelines are to use as close or higher that 100 APV
with recent maiden winners

Bill,I have a follow up question and Philly would be a good example.Wouldnt the increase in purses distort the class and apr?For example I noticed that Philly had an alw race with a purse of 40,000[wow those slots sure make a difference].Jeff

Hello Jeff

You're probably right the APV numbers are effected because of the higher purses
However, The way I use them and the fact that I know its not only the size of the purse that makes up the figure has only helped
I have even more confidence in them
Here is why

The figures are caluclated using a forumula of
Earnings per start
Top 3 finish
and number of starts

Ok watch out because now your entering the world of binderville

Yes the purses at Philly have gone way up
But so have the field sizes. Almost every race is larger than ever
I see many 10 - 12 horse races
and before slots I saw only 1 per card and that was usually
an unbettable $8000 Maiden claimer

The fact that you finished 3rd in a 5 horse field is
not as good as 3rd in a 10 horse field

The fact that you won a $40000 alw race with a field of whatever was you beat
all the horses in THAT race all the horses in the race are in it for what ever reason
But were did all these horses come from ? Money talks
and better purses mean better horses. You do good in a $40,000 race
guess what You are a good horse

I know its got flaws but it still works
I use them more for paceline selection
and to eliminate horses I almost always have the winner
in my readouts Yesterdays race 8 from GP was the first time in many races
that I missed the winner in my top 5

Its fun to do the calculations I see many things by doing them
stuff like 10 races 1 win 6 seconds 0 thirds todays purse $21.500
total earnings $9500
This comes out to
APV 21.2% and CR is 97.0
This horse has been doing good coming in second all the time that why the 97.0 is ok
But the 21.2 % tells me this horse is in way over its head in a $21500 purse race
and I am not going to help it

The apv numbers are mostly to get the 5 or 6 top number
I have been showing them in all my races you can see the horses that have good numbers do well and the lower numbers don't

Here is a pdf of Page 41-52 of the yellow manual
were doc explains all about the APV and CR numbers
http://www.bindfold.com/Yellowmanuals_pages41_52.pdf
I hope I helped
Bill

Bill,

Do you have a little computer that you use to do your class numbers or do you do them all by hand with a caculator?

The numbers work. I used to use them and that was about all I used to find the one or two that would be in the finish. Back then I had a pocket computer that had all that stuff in it but it died.

OLD programs had a calcuation program in them. Racinos have messed them up unless all the horses are running exclusive to a single course.

Now its Racinos that have messed them up. In the 80's and 90's people said the state bred programs messed them up. It seems like there is always a reason the Class/APV figures won't work, but they keep working anyway.

Of course there are flaws, but they were never intended to be a stand alone selection mechanism. They remain a viable corrallary and better horses continue to follow better purses regardless of the reason for the purse increases.

The people that pour their money down the slots have mush for brains. When some of that money drifts over to be used for betting on a horse race that mush is still in their head. Thats why, favorite mutuals seem to be getting lower and price horses seem to be paying better.

Have you ever looked at the faces of a row of people playing the slots. They are hypnotized.

Now look at a group of people doing races together. They are animated and basicly friendly.

For what is worth that is my opinion.
