Paceline selection Sprints
How many of you use 7 fr lines when calculating a 6 furlong sprint. I used to but so many times I was bitten in the butt by the 7 furlong line showing up on Top BL/BL but the horse not living up.. I switched about a month ago to only use 5.5 6.0 and 6.5 for 6 furlong sprints and thought all was fine. Midnight Lute threw a monkey wrench into the equation.... Caused me to miss the Super as I had only included him underneath.. Using the 7 fr line I would have had it...

I will use 7f for a 6 of 6.5 - I let the adjustments do their best. I try to let Total Energy be my guide, coupled with a good finish or good move. Perhaps other factors in the adjustment process than distance equalization can sometimes inflate the 7f line: a slow daily track variant (which would speed up the call times) or an inappropriate inter track variant adjustment. Those are the 3 adjustments applied to raw call times (within the same distance structure). Is it possible that some previous observations re 7f lines involved these things?

I do this manually (which is one of the primary reasons I like to use manual input). Otherwise I'll use the 7f paceline as it is. Note, I will not adjust the six furlong time at all; no ticks off or any of that business. Also, I'll only do it for the last paceline as a general rule. |
