The best advice I can give you is to listen to Ted, Bil V and Richie P. and the others. What they tell you is the truth. There are no shortcuts. There are things you will try that later you will ask yourself why you did that, But that is part of the learning process. You have to try them to know for yourself that they will or won't work for you.
There is no fast way to learn. Just keep reading and listening and applying what you learn .

Next year (yes year) you will look back on things that seemed confusing now and know what they mean, and how to use them and say to yourself 'Look how I've progressed.' I didn't know what that meant a year ago and now it's part of me.

That's the way it works. Keep plugging away. It will come.

Patrick,

When I was a kid, someone (who shall remain nameless ) forced me (lovingly encouraged me) to practice the piano, practice scales, scales, scales, exercises, and play a thousand tunes old and new. Now I can play the piano, appreciate classical and modern music and compose it myself, perhaps not half badly.

Work 1000 races with Methodology tools. Work at least 100 races with records on what you did in each one and how you did in 20 race batches before betting a dime. Seriously, that's how it works. Tim's advice is not half bad: read (again) Brohamer's book and Pace Makes the Race. Read Follow Ups 70 - 88 (forget about the earlier ones for now). That will do you. Watch all the videos which are posted.

By your enthusiasm and demonstrable love of learning, prove yourself an interesting person such that when you see someone posting here whose demeanour and success you respect, approach them (e.g. by Private Message) and offer them the gift of them being a teacher to you for just 1 hour, over the phone, working the same race or two, looking at principles, techniques, maximize that precious time (and if they choose to renew that, then allow them). If the person you approach doesn't have time, or is shy, or dubious, thank them and move on. I know Doc did that (telephone and in-person consultation/mentoring sessions), Jim Bradshaw did that, as did many teaching members - it's a difficult thing.

Your passion, properly harnessed, can result in a changed life, in that, mastery in such a difficult and sublime game as this does not come independently of mastery of your own life. If you wish, you can even make a steady income. Then you can mentor others. This will change your life. So it goes...

All the best,

Ted

Patrick,

Please take the above advice from Richie serious. HSH and RDSS are very different programs that approach the races from very different perspectives. If you try to mix the two, I will almost guarantee you will not be successful.

If you are really committed to learning the Sartin methods and how to apply them to Sartin programs, there are some excellent teachers on this site that will bend over backwards to help you if you are truly committed to learning.

ENERGY DISTRIBUTION. It is all about understanding a way of evaluating PERFORMERS by looking at distinct PERFORMANCES and see how each horse reacts to whatever pace stresses put upon it. Too many people simply rely on a single performance to tell them all about the performer forgetting that sample error has a nasty habit of skewing that understanding.

BEWARE slow early paces in making a horse look far better than it really is. If a horse runs just about all races as a presser and then gets a higher speed rating with a single LATE performance, MOST OF THE TIME, that one was a beneficiary of a slow early pace.

See all the love here, it is truly amazing, and yes Richie i agree with you , one thing at a time, as I have stopped my downloads for HSH and will concentrate here with RDSS and the methods here.

I will do the video's , but have had trouble already with a few of them not playing properly, something about the CODEC not installed, but I will google that and see what I can do to fix it, I'm getting better trying that, but then sometimes I really mess things up more too, but lets think positive, for me.

Lately I have been having reading issues and have not been able to read much and or , how do I say this, enjoy/comprehend/see the words and writing, as they seem like I can not make out what I need, and then wham I can, so patience will be needed, please, I will get to what I need, which reminds me about asking the desired order again.

The yellow book ---- 1st read

Follow-ups 70-88 ------- the 2nd things to read

And this is where I have no idea what else to read, except the 2 books

Brohamer's book--which is what , please

Pace makes the Race

Are these required too, I would think yes they are, any one know if they been made into audio books??? I sure hope so, most likely not though.

Believe me when I say this , that learrning this is fun and enjoyable for me and taking one step at a time is fine by me, but I do tend to catch on quickly and may get ahead of myself at times, and may be reminded of that too, it is a bad habit of mine that I am working on, really I am, that is why I mention it here and now, Patience and Passion, are hard to control with me, but discipline will help me keep them under control, and time willing I will aquire the required Discipline, in a few areas, that are not limited to wagering decisions, record keeping, and sometimes studying skills, for this reason , I would ask for patience and understanding with me please, not coddling, just I don't know patience I guess, thanks.

I am an self-educated truck driver, not a schooled, (college educated) , nor have I held a physicist , or a mathematician, or anyhting close to one, just an old time truck driver, tyring to learn computers and handicapping and at times very very slowly, and then I get these bursts of accomplishments, and I think I am on top of the world, so when I am stumbling and a grumbling loudly, I apologize now for that, and when I hit that high, again I ask forgiveness for shouting out loud my success, like , well you'll see as I progress and hopefully I will be better restrained in my expressions of thanks and appreciation.

There it is ME, all laid out no hidden agenda's, no lies, no misconceptions, just the bare honest truth, I hope we can still proceed forward and as Ted stated let it change my life and someday I can mentor others, and do it with a smile too.

Thank you all

Patrick
