Matchup Challenge May 9/10 by The Pook
I think everybody should come north to Woodbine for the first time this year. The weather is gorgeous, the leaves are coming out and the grass is growing. I'll see what I can come up with for Saturday and Sunday.

Seven Furlongs doesn't seem to be around. Otherwise it would be his shot this weekend.

WO 5/9/15 Race#7 to run Saturday at 16:09 hours ET
As a salute to the absent Seven Furlongs here is a nice run of the mill seven furlong sprint with some speed in it. Pook Last edited by The Pook; 05-07-2015 at 06:57 PM. |

Hey folks! Mum and I and anyone else who makes it to Woodbine on Saturday (Champions lounge) will be working this race. Let's see if we can celebrate her 81st Birthday in some MatchUp 'style'!
Looking forward to seeing a few of you there Ted

Woodbine Race 7 5.9.15
My Running Styles 1 E 22.3 45.1 2 P 3 S 4 EP 23.4 47.3 5 S 6 E 23 45.3 FPLR 7 E 22.3 45.1 8 P 9 P I believe this race sets up to be run OTE. The 1 and 7 should be setting the pace at 22.3 45.1 the final time for these fractions would be 1:09.3 (1:22.7 for the full 7 furlongs) from both the 7 and the 9. The 7 has fought against this pace and won, but most of the time has finished 2nd when the 1st call is under 23, same with the 1 so they are out. The 2 and 3 have never been competitive against that pace and are out. The 4 and 6 are early horses that will not get the lead and are also out. That leaves the 5, 8 and 9 as contenders. I believe the 5 will be too far back to be a contender, and is also out. The 9 appears to run better against this pace than the 8, so my win be would be on the 9. 1 - EP, has not shown first off layoff form, ran best race last race last year, but not his best time. Could be all the good nw1x horses had already won. Needs sprint lead and cannot get it today. Out.
2 - P, for sale for the 1st time??; pushed todays pace in last and faded; does not appear to have been competitive at this level in past; Out. 3 - P, looks like the class of the race, but only 4 races last year after sterling 2013; now is for sale; has pressed a 46 or less 2C in past without winning; might have advantage over this field, class wise. Never raced vs these in last 10 races. 4 - SP, maybe; lightest raced horse here; raced once at SA, discount that but 3 out of 4 layoff comebacks failed; Best route internal fractions look a bit slow; has right race positioning to be okay in this field; I think too slow and are willing to get beat by best trainer. Out. 5 - P, has closed from 4th thru 6th which is good today; beat the 2 handily last out and can run faster than last out. Contender. 6 - E needs open lead and cant get it. The 7 and 1 should keep him honest. Out. 7 - E possibly best fighter of the 1-6-7 but to no avail today. Out. 8 - SP, never competitive at this level before; won as C 50, but no better than 4th-5th this level, Out. 9 - SP, horse looks to have had several issues in past, but lightly raced as a result. Layoff looks to be no great concern and can push fast paces or close. Contender. Pace 23.0-46.2-110.2 The 3 can handle this pace IF ready, but sale signal not what I want. 5 22.3-44.3-109 from 6-6-3 9 23.0-45.2-109 from 6-6-6 There are 3 or 4 that can lead so OTE shape. 5 is my first choice and 9 is 2nd choice. |
