Dictation Software - Pace and Cap

Hey Ted

I recently discovered Speech Recognition in Windows 7. Seeing that i’m such a lousy typer, I decided to look into a dictation software program. After looking at the reviews on Dragon Dictation, i stumbled on the fact that Windows 7 has a dictation program already installed, problem solved! I’ve been messing around with this all morning and it’s pretty cool, you can pretty much control your whole computer by dictating into a microphone.

I have one question, when using dictation to post to a thread, it asks you to insert the line after you are done speaking or a short pause. Is there a setting in v-bulletin that allows you to constantly dictate without having that pop up window come up asking you to insert the line after a pause in speech?

I know it’s a shot in the dark, but I thought I would ask.

I don't know. Haven't used the Windows 7 (or 8) dictate program, though I was in the process of setting up Dragon (because my typing is gradually deteroiratign ... ).

I'd have to make time to test what you see in Win8 (no Win7), otherwise I'm not sure what effect you are seeing, thus no recommendations right now re vBulletin settings.

Perhaps the next time we connect remotely, you can show me your screen.

whrere did you locate this on W7? is this on vista also?

It depends on what version of Vista/Windows 7 you have, the home versions of each respectively will not have it, but you never know.

Open the start menu, type in "Speech Recognition" in the "Search programs and files" box, and see what you come up with.

Or go to Control Panel>Ease of Access>Speech Recognition.

I purchased Dragon speech software, which is supposed to be the best, it didn't work that great for me. I am pretty good at typing, and found it was easier to type it in, rather than speak to computer. You may find it the other.

To be honest, i'm amazed at how good Speech Recognition works. Sure it misspells the occasional word, but it is easily fixed in seconds. There is no way i can type as fast as i can dictate and it is a huge time saver for me.

The more you use the program the better it gets, it learns how you pronounce words over time, and i am noticing less mistake's the more i use it. Love it! Getting use to the command words is the biggest obstacle for me, but i am sure over time it will become second nature. The only drawback is, if anyone is in earshot of you, they hear every last detail of what you are doing.

Now if i could just teach it to handicap races....
