WO & FL Example Databases available (free)
To celebrate the Opening Day tomorrow April 20, 2013 of both Woodbine and Finger Lakes, I have made up small Example Databases from both these fine tracks and placed them in the Example Databases Section of the RDSS Users Area.
Woodbine: 7 days, August 17-26 Finger Lakes: 7 days August 27 - Sept 18 Both these tracks, while widely different in scale and calibre of racing are none-the-less favourites of many for their long seasons, consistent racing, often generous mutuels and consistent models of impactful factors. In addition, Woodbine this year has reduced Win Pool takeout to 14.95%, the lowest Win pool takeout of any track in North America. Let's help them prove that this is the right way to go to regain the confidence of both casual and seasoned bettors! All good reasons to focus on Woodbine this year. And looking forward to several Finger Lakes specialists, including the Rev. Bert Mayne, to report in on how to beat that bullring with the buzz-saw-voice announcer And - everyone near Woodbine on Saturday May 11 is cordially invited to join the growing list of folks helping Mum to celebrate her 79th Birthday - in Champions, 3rd floor. Enjoy the Spring racing! Ted

Thanks Ted for all you great efforts of getting us this great program. My brother has been involved with this methodology for a long time, I have just recently started using it. He has given me some insight however, I was hoping you could give me an idea of a better way to understand the definitions and structure of the application. I have been looking through the forum and some Google searches. Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks

Question
This may be a stupid question, but what exactly is the purpose of the database? Is it for keeping track files for a particular track in one place?

The 'database' is the component of RDSS where ... the data is stored! In the Data Center, you download files from TrackMaster then you Convert them to the RDSS 'database'. Only after this 'conversion' process can you work with the races in RDSS. The database in RDSS is a single file where all the different kinds of data about a race is stored. With this new version, instead of having only one database file where EVERY race goes, forever, you can now have as many separate database files, named anything you like, for you to put your races in. Or for me to put collections of data in and make available to everyone for study or research purposes, which is what the various Example Databases are. Database files, including the supplied example databases, are stored on your \rdss2\data\ folder. I still recommend you store your own downloaded data either in the main database (named creatively, 'data.db') or if you prefer in a database file of your own creation (use the New button in the Database Management tool) named however you like (e.g. Bills-2013-data.db or WO-2013.db, etc). You still create Factor Decision Models (so far) by exporting Analysis data to Excel worksheets using the Export tool, then collate them using the Master Template into separate track and/or surface and/or distance related sheets. Hope that clarifies it a bit. Ted
