Travers - We are down to 2

I like to eliminate as many horses as possible, and for this G1 .... I am down to 2. The odds will be brutal, but awfully fun to watch.

I was doing some backtracking on this event, having the 1979 edition come to mind. I found this amusing quote:

Moments after the Travers, LeRoy Jolley, the General's trainer, had a self-aggrandizing flight of fancy. "There has been some talk about making the Saratoga meeting longer," he said. "As far as General Assembly is concerned, they should make it a year-round meeting." Forget the absence of a mud mark. The General's performances show that he likes an off track. In 1978 he came to prominence by winning the six-furlong Saratoga Special in 1:09, the quickest time for that race in 73 years. The track that day was listed as only "good." General Assembly's second-place finish behind Spectacular Bid in the Derby was over a wet but fast track.

One of my better scores in The Travers, along with Rhythm in 1990.

V.E. Day - LTR

V.E. Day was 2nd in LTR..... I just could not include him as his Speed Rating was well below my top two. I may have to broaden the scope of SR.

Although, I must say I thought the jockey on Wicked cost him the race down the lane.

Good bets to all that cashed.

TPR's

Bill, I was looking at this horse from a Pace Makes the Race perspective. Mind you I DID NOT do any track to track or variant procedures but tried to put a bare bones EPR, LPR and TPR on each of his races. What I think I saw was enlightening at least to me, so thought I'd pass it along.
The 2 highest TPR's were both at 7 furlongs. His EPR and LPR ratings in those races were almost even.
The 2, 8.0 furlong races were run with identical TPR but at a slightly lower TPR than the 2, 7 furlong races.
His first 2 attempts at Grade 1 races were dismal efforts and had TPR's about 15 points lower (average) than his 7 furlong & 8.0 furlong efforts.
In his only G1 win (last race at 9.0 furlongs), he actually ran a higher LPR than EPR. Just looking at the numbers made me think he'd have come from off the pace. Maybe Mth par early pace figures are faster. Still his TPR number was about equal with his races at 8.0 furlongs.
His races over 8.0 furlongs had a TPR about 10 points lower average than the 8.0 furlong times.
With what I had, it looked like this horse wants long sprints or short routes to be at his best. I haven't looked up the time in the race results but was wondering if you could post the TPR screen for just this horse to see if the program would confirm my suspicions. I didn't think 3 numbers could give this much information, but if the TPR screen is similar then I may want to investigate TPR's more in depth.

Thank you in advance if you can.

Ray
