Energy question / application

Hey can someone help with what looks like a textbook example for Energy?
(If it's not Total Energy, should be clear what type of metric I am asking to learn about...) - Basically two races, same day, one goes faster earlier and slows down later.
Please show work .
Both winners went wire-to-wire.
Assuming an equal track, Did the claimer actually use more energy? How close was it?

thanks,
Jay

hi
thanks for the reply

So Citigambler only beats him in Med... Is that median energy?

I think I had a fuzzy memory of something that leans toward the early runners.

thanks
Jay

Via match-up...

Digger would be running 2nd and about 10 lts off of Citi by the half...can he win?

applying the 2 units for each one for Digger to keep up makes his final time 1:13.13
