Q: What do the '
moves' markups on the Horse and Analysis Original screen mean?
A: 'Moves' are a collection of underlines in different colours in the position and beaten lengths section of the Original screen of each horse, intended to draw your eye to gains in position, lengths behind the leader (or the leader extending its lead) or gains made while racing outside other horses around the final turn.
1.
Red Underlines. In the last 2 races, within 90 days:
- a gain of 1+ lengths on the leader around the final turn (
thin underline)
- a gain of 1+ lengths on the leader around the final turn while running 3+ wide, i.e. outside of at least 2 other horses (
thick underline)
- not losing lengths on the leader through the stretch while gaining 1+ lengths around the final turn while running 3+ wide (
thin underline)
- a gain of 4+ lengths on the leader through the stretch (
thick underline)
Thick underlines are more significant gains on the lead.
2.
Blue Underlines. In any past race, a gain of 3+ positions, or extending a lead ( aka a '
power move' in Jim Bradshaw's Match Up terminology). The horse can PASS other horses and knows how to be competitive.
3.
Purple Underlines. In the last 2 races within 90 days, a gain of BOTH
positions and
lengths behind as defined above.
You can control whether or not these 'moves' are displayed using the 'Show Moves on PPs' setting on the Configuration Screen.
