Yes

Yes, the concepts are common
its the amount of early energy used in relation to the total energy used.

But There are three ways to look at it.

Originally the factor was called Percent Early

The calculation was, The second fraction divided by the final time

Let's look at a six-furlong example

Here is a filly from Parx from yesterday
Miss Star Lo

Here are her Phase 1 Early/ Late difference readouts
and her Energy and FPS readouts .

Name: Miss Star Energy and FPS.PNG

Lets figure her Perecent Early. This is done with the feet per second numbers

She ran a the early pace (Second Call) in 57.1 FPS
She ran the 3rd Fraction in 48.9
If we divide 57.1 by (57.1 + 48.9) we get a adjusted Early Percentage of 54.2.

Now RDSS caluculates % Med for us on the energy screen
The forumula is The F1 Energy percentage (36.6) + The second fraction Energy percentage ( 33.5)
So 36.6 + 33.5 = 70.1 So Miss Star Low has a %Med of 70.1

The calulations for Phase 1 and the early / late difference graph
also use the difference between the 2nd call and the final time .

In Phase 1 or rather the Early / Late graph it's in a visual form

In the case of Miss Star Lo

She ran a EPR of 89 Her total pace rating is 164
So if you devide 89/164 we get 54.21 The same figure as Percent Early

The calculations are based on different factors
Med Energy is an improvement on both Phase 1 and Percent Early
because it deals with the total energy a horse uses using energy percentages

So now in theroy, the best way to judge the early to late percentage difference is Med Energy

The advantage of Phase 1 and RDSS's Early/ Late difference graph is that is is in a visual format.

I can see a mile away the differences in the earlt to late
differences graph readouts , But I can not easily see the differences in numbers like Percent Early and Med Energy

So lastly what are we seeing on the early late graph?

Lets go back to Miss Star Lo

Phase 1 readouts are based on a point system.
The faster a horse runs, the higher points/figure they get for the EPR and LPR ratings.

Miss Star Lo earned 89 points for EPR She earned 75 points for LPR

So how do we figure the early late difference?

You take the EPR figure than subtract the LPR figure.
Like so 89-75 = 14 Therefore Miss Star Lo has a positive number
(colored Red ) of 14. and a red colored stick.

Horses that run with late energy get negative numbers.
Lets say Miss Star lo was a sustained runner and her phase 1 number were
reversed.

Like this, EPR 75 and LPR 89. Now again we
take the EPR and subtract the LPR like so 75-89 -14 Which would be a colored blue stick

I hope this helps you

Bless
