One thing I do know is that the technique I applied was new, and I was able to look at them much differently in light of what I've recently learned. I know for a fact that I didn't pick pace lines the same way the first time around.
Is that still a bad thing?

Speaking only from PERSONAL experience THIS is what is BAD:
1) Work a race
2) Pick a horse
3) Lose and go back to make the winner "fit" or "come up"
