It depends on the size of the field. If there are 7 or less horses in the race i will use the "fair odds" horses in PODDS (all 10-1 or less) for the match up and computer input. I only used Spec for the non-contender example.

If you noticed, there were 12 horses in the example race. I don't enter large
fields into my software because of the confusion it creates. I attempt to
trim the field as much as possible, then use the computer.
