RDSS freezes when selecting tracks for download

Ted,

I just starting using RDSS again on a new computer with windows 7 installed after a long haitus. On the third day the program has started locking, actually prompting me that RDSSis not responding when I select or deselect a track in the Data centre for download. Nothing new has been installed and no viruses are present. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, I ve even restored my computer to an earlier date and reinstalled.

Please Help!!!
Carl

Carl,

Welcome back!

Is it locking up when you click on:

a) a track in the All Tracks list
b) a track in the Selected Tracks list
c) a checkbox indicating a card for a specific track for a specific date

Attachment 19992

You say it happened after the 3rd day. Before the 3rd day, was there any problem doing what you now cannot do? Can you think of any change you made to Windows during that 3 day period?

Can you do the following:

1. before opening RDSS, take a copy of this file on the RDSS folder: tracklist.dat. Rename it tracklist_before.dat

2. Run RDSS to the point in the Datacentre when you get the problem you describe. If possible, wait for a while for the delay to finish. Whether the delay finishes and RDSS responds to what you clicked on, or the delay never finishes, or the software crashes - could you then go again to your RDSS folder and again take a copy of the file tracklist.dat and rename it tracklist_after.dat.

3. Email those 2 files (before and after) to me please.

Carl - is your Windows 7 32 bits or 64 bit version?

Has anyone else using Windows 7 experienced the same problem clicking on something in the Data Centre?

Ted

Thanks Ted,

I'm glad to be back

This is Windows 7 64bit. I will email the files asap. Initially I had some problems getting
the downloads to function, but I think that had more to do with my trackmaster subscription
activating. Once trackmaster became active everything functioned fine until today. The only thing
which occured was a windows update, but I resotred my computer before the update and I'm still
having the issue;

Carl,

Have you tried doing a cold boot of your computer (Shut Down, count to 10 or go get a gin-tonic), then Start Up again and load RDSS first thing?

Does the problem persist? I'm wondering if there's ANY chance you have 2 instances of RDSS running at the same time. (That shouldn't be an issue, but I'm trying to isolate the problem).

If you check the box in the green (header) section of the All Tracks list to check ALL tracks - do you have the problem? If you then Uncheck ALL tracks do you have the problem?

This is not a known problem so far and the Datacentre has been rather unchanged for several years. I have not personally tested this on Windows 7 64 bit, but enough others have that I'm a bit stumped just at the moment.

Your files might help.

Ted,

I attempted all of the above, results were the same program stopped responding and would infintely cycle. I have emailed you the tracklist files.

Thanks
Carl

Carl,

Just to close out this issue - after you sent me your files, we determined that the problem was in a corrupt tracklist.dat file (the file which tracks the current Data Centre track/dates/cards settings). When I send you a new one, everything started to work fine. The issue was nothing to do with Windows 7 64 bit.

For anyone else who may encounter a similar problem, here is the file I sent (in a ZIP file):

Attachment 20007

Unzip the tracklist.dat file from the ZIP into the RDSS folder, overwriting the previous tracklist.dat file. Open RDSS and the Data Centre, add/remove tracks from the Selected Tracks List until you get it to look like you want.

Ted,

The problem has returned and I cant get the program to work even replacing the tracklist file. I'm at a loss here, not sure whats going on.

Carl,

Please email me again the current tracklist.dat file (from your RDSS folder) - the one which doesn't work.

Ted,

I emailed the files, as a work around I downloaded/converted the woodbine card on my sons 10 year old computer and then xfered the woodbine folder over to my laptop. I can't get the rdss on my laptop to see the card.

Is there anyway to get rdss to recognize data that it didnt download and convert?

Thanks
Carl

Carl,

I sent you another tracklist.dat file to try.

The RDSS TrackMaster files you download (on any computer, whether directly or copied) don't show up in the Sidebar listing until you Convert them. After you select the track and a date, you can Convert them (which is a problem, I understand, if you can't select the track...). After you Convert them, you can delete the download files - RDSS only interacts with its database.

Let's see if this next tracklist.dat file gives any clues, or if some observation springs to mind.

Ted
