browser differences
 

Because of all the security holes (and the fact my wife teahces students computers at a technical college) I use Mozilla Firefox as a browser and it does not get this site, or at least it does not support the LOG in box.

I use Firefox 1.0.6 to access VDC and it logs me in fine. (Same as PA forums). Email me if you like and we can squeeze out the differences in configurations. I much prefer Firefox.

I'm having the same problem with the new Firefox v1.07. It doesn't log me in automatically and there is no login box, so I can't post using Firefox.

I'm finding that Pace Advantage also doesn't log me in automatically, but it does present me with a login box.

I had no problems with v1.06, so I'd advise you not to upgrade Ted, til thry get it worked out.

Thanks, I'll try 1.0.7 on a different computer and try to observe the differences and report back. There's several vBulletin systems I can test-access it on (PA, HTR, etc).

Tim I'm having the same problem but the problem doesn't seem to be related to the upgrade. I was fine with 1.04 until I did a clean up from within the Firefox menu. I think that deleted either a necessary cookie or other file that the site was using to identify me when I hit the site.
Once I did the clean up, using the same version of Firefox, with no other changes, I no longer was able to access or view the log in box. My view of the forum screen of V/DC is different in IE and Firefox.
I am pretty sure it is one of the files I deleted and have manually copied some of the data files from IE to the Firefox directories but so far I haven't hit the right file.
I upgraded to the beta release of Firefox after I started having the problem thinking it might change something but it is the same problem but the problem is not upgrade related. I experienced the problem before I upgraded.
Eventually I'll find the proper file.

Firefox Login Problems with vBulletin
 

I did some research on this and found some help on Jelsoft's support forum (makers of vBulletin, the forum software we use here). That being said, I couldn't test the advice, since I don't experience the problem. Here it is:

www.bindfold.com needs to set some cookies related to use of vBulletin. You should be able to see these cookies in Firefox, by navigating menus to Tools|Options|Privacy|Cookies, View Cookies. Scroll down the list of Sites to bindfold.com. You should find about 8 cookies, with Cookie Names such as 'bblastvisit', 'bbuserid', etc.

Back in the ...Privacy|Cookies display, make sure Allow Sites to Set Cookies is checked. (A FF upgrade may have switched this setting). While you're on the Privacy display, click on Cache, then Clear to store any previously saved stored settings from different websites. Click on OK, then try to log in to VDC and see if that solves the problem.

If it does not, return to the ...Privacy|Cookies display and click the Exceptions button. Enter www.bindfold.com in the 'Address of web site' box and click on Allow, then click OK. Try again.

If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas so far. For those who log in to PaceAdvantage, which also uses vBulletin board software, you can see the same Cookie settings set by that web site. If you can log into PA but not VDC, it may (or may not!) have something to do with vBulletin Cookie path settings in config.php on Binders site. (But don't ask me about that :~)

I'm guessing that vBulletin uses the combination of the bbuserid Cookie, and the UserName for the bindfold Site (see ...Privacy|Saved Passwords, View Saved Passwords for http://bindfold.com: UserName is your VDC handle, Password should be blank), to automatically log you in using your Password stored on the Bindfold vBulletin server.

Perhaps Binder or Rich Rosa can comment here.

Thanks for checking it out but it didn't work. Still can't see the log in functions from Firefox. I followed all of the steps.
I am pretty sure that is close to the right answer to the problem but we are not finding the right cookie.
I checked the cookie section of Pace Advantage and couldn't come up with one that is stored there and not in the Bindfold Cookie section. I am pretty sure it is some type of ID cookie that is missing.

Too bad that didn't work. I have another computer on which I'll try to emulate the problem by doctoring the FF Cookies and Saved Pwds. In my business, (so I tell people) if I can duplicate the bug, I can (usually) fix the bug. I do like FF, and am glad this hasn't happened to me (yet) :~)

This won't solve the problem, but it'll help with lots of sites that don't display properly (or at all) in Firefox. Download and install the "IE view" extension for Firefox from the Mozilla website. Once installed, you can right-click on any page in Firefox and select "View in IE" from the context menu; you'll then see all the server-side stuff like the VD/C log in box. Hey, it's how I got here right now....

Unfortunately I am fully to blame for this one. I did a general cleanup and indiscriminately cleaned up all cookies as opposed to targeting the sites that I didn't want up there.
A beginner's error leaving myself without a valid backup. After 23 years of this you would think I would know better.
Right now I use IE to log in here. For almost everything else I use Firefox. It's a much better product, besides we can't be giving Billy Gates the whole world. He has a big enough piece of it now.
