Match Up Program Developed By Bob Purdy

Anyone have any documentation or know anything about this old DOS manual entry Match Up program? Yeah, I know it's ancient, but I've always found it's simplicity elegant and the manual input fairly quick.

I think it came out around the time of the "red" Match Up manual but I haven't found any writeups on it in any of the Follow Up's around the same time frame. I think I read where Doc mentioned it once but that was it.

Bob Purdy was kind enough to respond to my email inquiry about it but it's been 20 years and Bob was experimenting with various adjustment formulas at the time and just doesn't remember the adjustment formula for this one.

I'll put up some screenshots and thanks for any info.

I hope you don't mind me offering an opinion.
The Match-Up is a fairly decent program but for simplicity and elegance,
the purest and best piece of software to come out of the Sartin methodology by far and away would be Phase 3. No bells and whistles here. No fluff and meaningless information. Easy manual input and following the prescribed usuage of the factors as written by Tom Brohammer. These can be found in the "Factors Manual" and in the very first Sartin follow-up. I use this program exclusively which in itself is no endorsement. I will say, as of late I've had some descent results. For my method of play, I still bet one horse to win and use the $ 1.00 BRIS files.

Appreciate your opinion, Parts. I have read some of your posts here and at PA where you are comfortable using it and a one horse betting strategy. Not sure if I had the Phase 3 program in the past but I know I don't now.

I'm sure as a lot of us did, I started working the numbers on a calculator in 1988. Tom Brohamer was kind enough to spend some time with me I think at a McDonalds not far from the Santa Anita racetrack and gave me some advice. I attended a few of the seminars he did with Quinn and another fellow at Santa Anita and also some at Beaumont and Vegas that Doc put on.

I think the first program I used was Bob's Synergism 2 and got as far as Thoromation, which confused the heck out of me at the time. I left the Methodology in the early 90's as life went a different way and have in recent months started to re-visit.

That's why I'm deciding what tool to use to assist my handicapping now - simplicity is important. I had also heard some good things about the last Windows version of AOdds Gold done by Randy Kovach that was able to use the BRIS $ file.

A question: You said Phase III was manual input but you still use the $ file? Just for the pp's?

Thanks.

Good question.
I use the BRIS files with the BRIS Post Position Generator or AOdds.
The BRIS files are very flexible and can be used with a multitude of different programs and is a great value at just $1.00 on a track by track basis. You can use a package plan that will further reduce your cost for data.
I sometimes use a spread sheet or just a pen and paper.
I will on occasion run optional programs when picking contenders.
Without true contenders all this software is worthless.

I like Phase3 because you have the ability to do a meridian variant which in a sense truly equalizes the horses on all surfaces and distaces and not have to worry about the DRF variants or par times. It works great on poly.

If I can help you with the program, I'd be happy to do so.
Just send me an email and we can discuss this further. :D

hear, hear: contender selection separates the men from the boys in the handicapping arena.

There are a lot of good programs out there.
it's unfortunate that in many cases the people that took the credit and money for many of them couldn't formulate or program worth a damn. They were purely marketers and their credentials were indeed questionable and dubious.
There were those that exploited the works of some very talented people and then their were those that literally
stoled it. This phenominum is still happening today
So if anyone out there is sharing or trading this antiquated, unrevised and unsupported software, they should not have a guilt trip. The only ones that would be objectinable to this are the ones that are currently marketing new products. They can't make money when your using something they can't sell you.

Afterall, what goes around comes around and payback is a bit_h.

Synergism 2 is a good program to use when Poly track is involved. Just say yes to the question,"is this horse a shipper?" when u have a horse going from Poly track to dirt or vice versa. The program knows how to handle that particular horse.
